Let me clarify once more for you. India WILL use those ghettoised Bihari Muhajirs as fifth column in BD. There is no doubts about it. In South Asia, India is not a benevolent power; she only knows coercion.

This exchange between India Today journalist Geeta Mohan and Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Riaz Hamidullah during the BRICS Roundtable sums up what we had written earlier - that India's Foreign Policy Establishment has failed to understand and accept the reality of the Monsoon Uprising in Bangladesh.

Instead of accepting the new reality of a post-Awami League and post-Uprising Bangladesh and recalibrating its foreign policy, India treated the Interim Government with contempt. Delhi appeared to look at the Uprising as a short-term, temporary event, its influence and impact limited to the Interim Government. The thinking among the foreign policy circles focused instead on the ‘future Elected Government’ of Bangladesh, hoping the BNP government would be the Awami League 2.0.

The expectations were placed on Tareque Rahman to ‘restore the balance’, undo the Interim Government and continue like the Monsoon Uprising never happened. The stenographers were now busy with Op-Eds, directed at the Bangladeshi PM, to reconcile with the Awami League, bring them back into the political realm and make their mildly inconvenient legacy of mass murder, torture, stolen elections and repression go away.

One month turned into two and before we knew it, six months had passed and little seemed to have changed in terms of expectations. A convicted mass murderer was given a platform and a megaphone to spew venom, at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club, at the heart of the Indian capital. When Bangladesh responded with ‘outrage’, India responded, unconvincingly, with ‘shock’.

The question asked by Geeta Mohan completely ignores the fact that the one person her State is hosting is a convicted mass murderer. The answer by Riaz Hamidullah expressed the firm resolve of the Post Uprising Bangladesh - that normalization of fascist dictator Sheikh Hasina is not acceptable to Bangladesh. India today is caught in a quagmire of its own delusions.
