The irony is that the U.S. and India are "Major Defense Partners," conduct joint military exercises and cooperate across the Indo-Pacific. Yet the U.S. Navy has launched missile strikes against commercial tankers in international waters and killed Indian merchant mariners.

The U.S. Navy had direct communications with the crews of the three foreign-flagged commercial tankers and was fully aware of their Indian nationality before launching the strikes that killed three crew members this week.

This echoes March, when the U.S. Navy torpedoed and sank, in India's backyard, an Iranian frigate returning in a non-combat configuration after largely expending its munitions during an India-hosted multilateral naval exercise in which the U.S. also participated.

And just as the U.S. Navy did not attempt to rescue the sailors from the sinking frigate, it likewise did not come to the aid of the surviving Indian crew members aboard the three tankers it struck. The rescue efforts were mounted instead by Omani authorities.

It is noteworthy that the vessels Washington labels part of a "shadow fleet" transporting crude oil are largely linked to China and Russia. Yet since the Trump-ordered naval blockade began on April 13 without any basis in international law, the U.S. military has not struck a single tanker actively bound for, or coming directly from, either China or Russia.

Striking such a vessel would transform a localized naval blockade into a direct geopolitical confrontation with Beijing or Moscow — a line the Trump administration has explicitly avoided crossing. Instead, it has employed kinetic force only against lower-profile vessels, including those carrying Indian crew members.

Taken together, these incidents are a sad commentary on the state of India's foreign policy under the present government.

I don't think people understand the gravity of the situation as the UN is preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s outspoken opposition to the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran is continuing to reverberate across Europe, encouraging others to speak out.

The latest is Germany’s president, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who today described the war as both a violation of international law and a politically disastrous mistake. He also appeared to question Chancellor Merz’s government for its cautious response, noting that Washington’s justification for initiating the war — an alleged imminent attack on the U.S. — “does not hold water.”

The Geneva Conventions — reinforced by their Additional Protocol I — explicitly prohibit attacks on objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population. Where electrical plants are exclusively for civilian use and underpin basic needs, including powering hospitals, water systems and sanitation, their deliberate destruction is unlawful.

Trump’s threat to “obliterate” Iran’s electrical grid — now merely postponed — therefore underscores his disregard of international law. But his threatened action is not without precedent.

During the 1991 Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm), the U.S. systematically destroyed much of Iraq’s electricity-generating capacity. The consequences were devastating. Without power, water purification systems failed, refrigeration collapsed, hospitals faltered and the broader civilian infrastructure unraveled. The result was a surge in waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid and gastroenteritis and a sharp rise in infant mortality.

Later studies by UN agencies and others reached a stark conclusion: the destruction of Iraq’s power grid operated, in effect, as a biological weapon in slow motion.

From trade to oil, from data to India's long-term relationships with friendly countries, Modi ji SURRENDERED it all.

India has a proud record of chartering our own destiny. It remained unblemished until now. From Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi to even Atal Bihari Vajpayee - No Prime Minister has buckled under pressure of any country and made India a virtual vassal state, except Modi ji.

The Waiver That Gives the Game Away: Ever since the Trump administration claimed victory after designing a framework trade deal to steer India away from Russian oil, the Modi government has remained conspicuously silent. Now the cat is out of the bag.

With the Strait of Hormuz all but closed, Washington has granted India a temporary 30-day waiver to buy Russian crude in order to stabilize global oil prices amid the escalating U.S.-Israeli war against Iran. In high-stakes diplomacy, silence can be as revealing as speech. New Delhi has said nothing, but the waiver speaks volumes: Indian energy-import policy has quietly shifted under U.S. pressure.

A waiver is an exemption from a restriction. If India were still free to buy from whoever offers the best price, it would not need a 30-day license from the U.S. Treasury to receive Russian oil. By seeking the waiver, the Modi government tacitly acknowledges the new constraints created by the U.S.-India framework trade deal. As U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent put it, Washington expects New Delhi to “ramp up purchases of U.S. oil.”

The Modi government has aligned India more closely with the U.S.-Israel axis against Iran. Yet the irony is stark: India now requires U.S. permission to buy Russian energy even during an emergency triggered by American military action.
