The Palestinian resistance’s internal security platform has just published a short communique titled “Disarming the Resistance Means Destruction.” The message, which clearly articulates the resistance’s position towards decommissioning its weapons and demonstrates that this position is informed by historical precedents, notes that:

“In April 1993, Bosnians surrendered their light weapons in exchange for guarantees of safety after the United Nations designated Srebrenica and its surroundings in eastern Bosnia a safe area.

In July 1995, Serbian forces stormed the “safe” area of Srebrenica and carried out an ethnic cleansing operation against Muslims, killing more than 8,000 Muslims and systematically raping dozens of Muslim women.

Under the watch of the Dutch UN battalion tasked with protecting the Muslims, the Serbs committed the most horrific massacre in recorded history.

When the U.S. envoy asked the Taliban to lay down their arms as a condition for continuing negotiations, the movement’s spokesperson replied: ‘If it weren’t for these weapons, you wouldn’t have sat with us in the first place.’”
