On #WorldNoTobaccoDay, we renew our commitment to protecting our people from the dangers of tobacco and nicotine addiction. From banning e-cigarettes to becoming the first country in the world to implement a Generational Ban on Tobacco, we are taking decisive action to achieve this goal.
As new threats continue to emerge, including flavoured nicotine pouches and AI-driven marketing tactics targeting young people, we will remain vigilant and continue to strengthen tobacco control measures, cessation services, smoke-free jurisdictions, and legislative reforms.
Let us stand together and work towards a healthier, tobacco-free Maldives.
Warm congratulations to His Excellency Dr Khalilur Rahman, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, on his election as the President of the 81st session of the #UNGA. I wish you every success in this important role.
I am confident that under your able leadership, the General Assembly will continue to serve as a vital platform for all Member States. This is indeed a proud moment for the people of Bangladesh and the wider region.
On #WorldNoTobaccoDay, let us reaffirm our shared responsibility to protect future generations from the harmful effects of tobacco and other products that continue to target young people. Our youth deserve the chance to be free from nicotine addiction.
The Maldives has taken historic steps towards a tobacco-free future, but awareness, education and collective action remain essential. Together, we can create a healthier generation for an even brighter future for every Maldivian.
On this #GlobalDayofParents, we honour the selfless commitment of parents whose lifelong sacrifice nurtures the foundation of our families. Their love and resilience shape future generations, the strength of our nation, and we stand together for parents in recognizing their vital role in Maldivian society.
This administration remains steadfast in supporting parents and protecting every child’s future, by investing in education, healthcare, and community programs that uphold the Maldivian tradition of family as the cornerstone of our society.
