As we reflect on the tragedy of the return of the Taliban to power, this statement by @SR_Afghanistan and other UN experts must remind the world of the human rights nightmare and humanitarian disaster that has unfolded and is worsening in the country.

🇦🇫 THREAD:
Every single Afghan frontline soldier or officer I have spoken to has told me they were desperately short of ammunition, fuel, water, food, and other supplies during the decisive fighting in 2021.
Why? Was choking off the Afghan forces also part of the Doha deal?

Wow, this is exceedingly rare.
The immense Noam Chomsky was given a whole 8 minutes on Piers Morgan to explain how the US is provoking China into war, and he does a brilliant job at it.
An absolute must-watch if you want to understand what's happening.
He explains how the US is 1) "abandoning the One-China policy" that has "held the peace in the region for 50 years", 2) increasingly "encircling China with a ring of sentinel states armed with advanced precision weapons aimed at China" and 3) waging "a war to prevent China from developing", all the while gaslighting the world into believing it's China that's changing the status quo.
Yesterday I received printed copy of my book.
I hope my life story give hope to girls of Afghanistan, be inspirational for others and a reminder for big game players that what could be the consequences of their actions on people around the world particularly for women and girls.
However, despite the inadequate coat, he found solace in its green color, which made him feel young despite his white hair. With a smile on his face, he said, “But I like its colour; despite my white hair, its green hue makes me feel young”.
As we walked towards the resettlement office, I couldn’t help but notice that he was wearing a thin raincoat that was no match for the weather. He shared with me that it was the only coat he had received from the IRCC upon his arrival.
“He had arrived at the bus stop, but was unsure how to find the resettlement office from there. I told him to show someone the name & address of the office I had messaged him the day before. There was no one around, except for crows and snow, he replied.” https://t.co/0zeaUGgdws
Nonprofits & NGOs that support refugees are completely overwhelmed - they lack staff, they lack funding - & this is an example of what the consequences of that are (Canadian specific, but fits for the USA as well): https://t.co/TLNMBy6Fc7

He gazed outside at the snow and began narrating a poem by Rumi:
From reed-flute hear what tale it tells;
What plaint it makes of absence’ ills.
From jungle-bed since me they tore,
Men’s, women’s, eyes have wept right sore.
My breast I tear and rend in twain,
To give, through sighs, vent to all my pain.
Who’s from his home snatched far away,
Longs to return some future day…https://t.co/uIvV1oPOtD via @kabulnow
gov't financial aid. It is essential for gov't to cultivate a supportive environment where these newcomers can thrive and prosper. After all, these individuals have traveled thousands of miles with a great deal of hope to establish themselves and put down strong roots in Canada.
My latest article is on the challenges of new Afghan immigrants resettling in Canada.
The findings in this article show how the resettlement programs of the Canadian government are failing to address the unique obstacles the new immigrants face.

The current situation suggests a challenging future for the newcomers from Afghanistan. The lack of job opportunities, skills, and social networks will lead to poverty, unemployment, and mental health issues, ultimately resulting in family violence, crime, and reliance on...
