I found out I was pregnant on a Tuesday. I didn't tell anyone, not even my husband.

I'd been trying to surprise him for our anniversary that weekend. So I hid the test in my dresser and spent the next few days pretending everything was normal.

Then Friday morning came and my husband walked through the front door holding a tiny pair of baby socks. I just stood there staring at him.

👉A fractured, retained IV cannula fragment inside a vein is a critical medical emergency. Immediate action is required to prevent the plastic fragment from migrating through the bloodstream toward the heart or lungs, which can cause life-threatening embolization
👉 Apply a Tourniquet: Immediately apply a tight tourniquet or blood pressure cuff to the upper arm, proximal to the insertion site (above the elbow or hand). It must be tight enough to block venous blood flow (preventing the piece from traveling upward) but loose enough to preserve arterial pulse.
-Immobilize the Limb: Keep the patient's hand and arm completely still and flat. Do not allow them to flex, bend, or move their fingers or wrist, as muscle contractions can push the fragment further up the vein.
-Do NOT Probe the Wound: Never attempt to dig, squeeze, or use tweezers to look for the fragment inside the puncture site. Probing can push the fragment deeper or damage the vessel https://t.co/6YNQvAY60s NOT Reinsert the Guide Needle: If this happens mid-procedure, never push the internal needle back into the plastic catheter sleeve, as the sharp metal bevel can completely slice off the plastic fragment.
-Mark the Location: Use a pen to draw a circle around the site where the cannula broke so emergency teams know exactly where the fragment entered.
