Islam addressed slavery in the 7th century by pushing society toward emancipation: freeing slaves became worship, compensation for sins, and even a zakat category. The U.S. abolished slavery in 1865 only after a brutal civil war. So let’s not pretend the timelines or moral paths were the same.

But bonded labour and forced child marriage are not legal ideals here—they are crimes and failures of enforcement.
