@privilegecafe_@privilegecafe_ I didnβt know this, canβt help but think cornrows were not just an African hair style in the slavery context. Surely people left in the homeland continued styling their hair in braids and cornrows simply because thatβs how they always have?
Did you know Cornrows were used to help slaves escape slavery?
As Slaves were not allowed to read/write, they used cornrows to transfer information & create maps to the north & was the best way to not give back any suspicion to the owner.
This is WHY APPROPRIATION IS NOT OK.
