Most people misunderstand one fundamental thing about mass protests.

People think that if people are protesting over NEET, they must be angry only about NEET. If they're protesting against the Election Commission, they must be angry only about the Election Commission.

The answer is absolutely NO.

I can give you countless examples.

The recent NEET protests were not just about NEET. They were an expression of accumulated public anger against the government.

Take another example: Anna Hazare’s protest over the Jan Lokpal Bill. Millions of people took to the streets during Anna Hazare’s movement.

Give any random protester a mic at that time and ask them what the Jan Lokpal Bill was. Most wouldn't have been able to answer.

That’s what most governments misunderstand - That particular incident becomes the central point around which people gather. And public anger doesn't develop overnight. It accumulates over months and years because of multiple issues.

A protest may begin with one issue, but it often represents dissatisfaction with many others.

And this is why protests against the current government are unlikely to stop here.
