Sad to see him go but honestly there was no position for him in this team if you truly want to give some of the younger players a chance. His time here was special and I continue to vibe with his music.
Sproat, Tidwell, and Scott could all hold rotation spots in 2026. Which is one of the biggest reasons Streans hasn’t handed out big contracts to pitchers. Sproat and Tidwell will likely be up this year at some point and can be big factors in the success of this team.
I like this signing especially as a minor league deal. He had a good come back season last with Texas year hopefully the Mets can continue to help him improve.
@originaluyf1950 Baty for Stroman is very high when they could just sign a starter if they really felt like they needed one. But honestly it doesn’t feel like Stearns wants to. The Mets have several intriguing arms at AAA I this he would rather see if Megil and the others can’t hack it.
It could just be me but I’ve always felt like Baty’s bat just stays in the zone very long to cover the ball. It’s been one of the reasons I’ve continued wanting him to get another shot.
Yesterday was fun. These are the types of spring games I can’t wait for. How do the guys that have something to prove look. Not about the stats but how’s the bat speed look, is there hard contact, how do they look defensively, etc.
I think what a lot of people are missing is the Mets were planning on a 6 man rotation anyway. This only changes the plan slightly. They can just slot in the 6 starter for Senga/Holmes where there aren’t off days instead of consistently 6. The others can go on a normal 5 man.
@MetsSouthFla@WFAN660@sal He’s Mr. Loud. All Sal does is yell about the hot button topics he knows will boost his content. Just look at how he flip flopped on Pete Alonso all off season. “He’s gone” “we need him” “ get me Vladdy” “can’t let him walk now” “thankfully he’s back” “ we could have been better”
@originaluyf1950 Certainly possible. At the time when I wrote that the details weren’t out yet. Still think that unless they sign someone tomorrow an internal option is more likely. We’ve seen year after year signing pitches well into spring training means you won’t get that help for opening day.
This will stir up trade rumors but is likely to just get filled internally early in the season. This will likely push him into extend spring training and miss opening day. If there is a second length delay for a starter a reunion with someone like Quintana is far more likely.
Honestly we all know he doesn’t play the whole season. While clearly not ideal you can get a lot of rotation in the DH spot for guys like Goldschmidt, Bellinger, Judge. Early in the season and save some rough cold early games.
@MetsSouthFla Darling has been very open about his thoughts on signing 1 big player in the past. He believes multiple players are always better than 1 big splash. Take the Royals las off season they signed more free agents than any franchise. So I certain get it but not exactly what I would do
I complete get what he’s saying, but they lost to a dodger team that will be looking to get better. Who won without May and Glasnow and Ohtani pitching just to name a few. You have to strengthen this lineup knowing the Dodgers will pitch better next year.
Ron Darling doesn't think the Mets should be all-in on signing Juan Soto and will not judge their offseason on the success or failure of that pursuit:
“Juan Soto is as great a hitter as I’ve ever seen and Aaron Judge had a great season, but one player doesn’t make it. I don’t know, maybe you get two $300 million players.
The Mets proved this season that they have a lot there, and adding to that nice mix is going to be fun. I wouldn’t judge it by, 'If you don’t get Soto, then you have no chance to win.'"

@Hawksheart7 I agree I’m very excited about his potential and what he showed, however. It is a small sample size only a couple weeks worth of at bats. So we don’t know how he holds up over a whole Major League season even though I’m quite optimistic about him.
