We have started our next chapter in maths - graphs, tables and data. Really good conversations going on in the classroom today as they tackle the train timetable from London Paddington to Swansea.
We are now editing our suspense narrative based on The House of Madame M. The children are looking back at their writing at adding in all of our focus literary devices we have learnt this unit - elipsis, metaphors, short sentences and expanded noun phrases.
Cycling safely on the roads in an important skill. It was brilliant to see so many of our children achieved their level 2 bikeability after their training sessions before half term. Thank you watfordcycle hub.
We have really enjoyed our intra competition of Rapid Fire Cricket. We have had a festival this afternoon with 8 teams and 12 games. What brilliant sportspeople we have in year 5.
Today we wrote imaginary webpages and used a scoring sheet to see if our page would be top of a search engine. We considered how many times we used key words, what our URL could be and what pages should we link to. Next lesson we will try and improve the score of our pages.
In English we are continuing to edit our non-chronological report. Our focus today spelling. We are working in partners to help us spot the words which are spelt incorrectly.
In Science we learn about Shadows. We then made our own people out of foil and looked at how shadows changed when the light moved. We took them outside when the sun was shining to see what the shadow would look like at that point of the day.
We have been working hard editing our non-chronological reports. We have been using the chromebooks to research and find more facts out. Our writing includes colons, fronted adverbials and relative clauses which we have been learning about this term.
It’s time to learn our songs for Young Voices 2025. ‘Try Everything’ from Zootopia is our favourite so far. The link is on the google classroom for you to practise at home.
Today in computing we learnt about how to make our searches on search engines specific. We also thought about how we can know how trustworthy information on websites are. This is all supported by our online safety learning.
We learnt about how the planets move around the sun and the difference in the amount of time it takes. We decided to model it outside together to compare how many times the planets went around the sun. (Mercury and Venus ended up a little dizzy).
Working hard comparing six digit numbers in maths. We really enjoy working together in guided practice which helps us understand and problem solve together.
We loved being Sky Studios staff members for the day. Seeing where Sky staff work as well as the new technology they have was amazing and hopefully inspired some of students to pursue jobs in the media.
ETA back at school 5:20. Children will go into class to collect their things and will be dismissed from the playground. Will keep you update. We have had an amazing day and can’t wait to share it with you.
