Today's border staff are under huge pressure to make fast, informed decisions - balancing national security, economic growth and public trust, often in real time and during periods of heightened threat.
With passenger and freight data increasing at scale, modern analytics can help teams assess risk earlier, spot patterns that may otherwise remain hidden and prioritise resources more effectively - with principles long used in financial services having a role to play in strengthening border security.

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting the British Computer Society Defence Special Interest Group (DSIG) for a symposium on the topic of “connecting the space and cyber domains”.
Led by UK Space Command and hosted by our Strategic Investments Director, Chris Cook, the event brought together industry and government experts to discuss a range of topics including:
•The British space endeavour
•Cyber and electromagnetic threats to space assets
•Early career experiences in the IT and space industries
•Cyber vulnerabilities of space systems
It was brilliant to be able to bring the DSIG members together and help build this important community of those with an interest in digital defence.

Two months of integration. Four locations. 12 organisations. 50 BAE Systems personnel.
Working with a consortium of strategic organisations, we recently delivered a complex, multi-region Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) technical demonstration for the Royal Navy aligned to the UK MOD's Atlantic Bastion programme.
The demonstration proved the operational capability of our end-to-end #ASW solution, showcasing our credentials as a trusted mission partner that can support timely and effective decision-making in the underwater battlespace.
Key achievements included:
✅ Rapid sensor deployment from an uncrewed air vehicle
✅ Trusted data fusion across a multinational operation
✅ Sub-one-hour processing from data capture to exploitable outputs

“Connectivity can’t just be a collection of radios and links anymore. It has to become a mission fabric – something resilient, adaptive, and designed to keep decision making coherent even when the environment is anything but.”
In his latest blog, Mark Todd, Innovation and Technology Director, BAE Systems Digital Intelligence, takes a look at why military connectivity can fail, why slow tech adaptation is a strategic liability, and why a #Digital Targeting Web offers a step forwards.

If you’ve spent any time in modern operations, like Digital Intelligence’s Innovation and Technology Director Mark Todd, you’ll know that the old definition of “connectivity” doesn’t cut it anymore. A shift toward a layered mission fabric is crucial for connecting the modern battlefield. Read Mark’s latest blog to learn:
1.Why connectivity fails
2.About the UK MOD’s vision for a Digital Targeting Web
3.And why software defined networking offers a practical path forward

Our very own Professor Henry Tse, Head of Global Products, BAE Systems Digital Intelligence took part in a panel debate this week as part of @solentpartners Solent FutureScape. The session looked at ‘Intelligent Innovation’, and discussed how #tech and #AI have driven innovation in the Solent region - past, present, and future. Henry shared his perspective that AI will continue to transform the landscape that we work in. “Our job is to make sure it does so responsibly, effectively, and always with purpose.” Take a look at his blog for more ➡️ https://t.co/KqiA4RQJTE
As "the most significant defence, security, and diplomatic agreement the UK has entered in the past 60 years", the AUKUS partnership between the UK, US and Australia will be a critical contributor to future security and prosperity. Falling under 'Pillar 2' of the agreement, along with several other capabilities, is Cyber. But what role could it play?
In our latest blog, we examine the critical role #cyber has to play and the opportunities it could bring to #AUKUS as a whole, from strengthening national resilience to protecting critical systems. Read it here: https://t.co/WAc5hg6mkY

As we prepare to wrap up at Space Comm Expo, here are a few shots from this year’s event. Given the current geopolitical and economic climate, a recurring theme across the show for us was the discussion around how we can deepen international collaboration to achieve national security and defence objectives. This year there was plenty of live action from our experts.
✅ Chief Technology Officer Tony Holt took the stage to discuss how we can ensure national security through international collaboration. This session looked at how we can strengthen collective security in the space domain.
✅ Tony was then joined by other leaders from across the space ecosystem, including Allen Antrobus of PA Consulting, Victoria Cope of Defence Digital, Kata Escott of Airbus Defence & Space UK, Major General Paul Tedman CBE, Commander of United Kingdom Space Command, and Steve Young of ICEYE. The group discussed ‘Securing Space Assets and Strategic Stability’, looking at the militarisation of space and the opportunity for coordinated defence strategies.
Thank you to everyone who engaged with us and we look forward to continuing the conversation.

It's time to rethink what UAVs can do for policing and national security.
Many still see them as just flying cameras, but their true capability has evolved far beyond that. Modern UAVs are now advanced, multi-sensor intelligence platforms. They provide a depth of insight that strengthens resilience, security and strategic decision-making.
This shift from tactical tool to strategic data asset represents a significant step forward in how we can protect and manage complex environments. Two weeks out from #SecurityAndPolicing 2026, we explore this transformation and what it means for the future of policing in our latest blog.
