The British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) has published the workshop report for the Medical Training Prioritisation Bill – Workshop on Impact, Equality and NHS Patient Care that took place on 25th March 2026.
IMG doctors from the Philippines were represented through BAFPS, with officers Dr Zenel Yap and Dr Dominique Calilung, and member Dr Bruno contributing amongst 80 other attendees to the discussion and development of recommendations. This involvement is reflected in the report and highlights the importance of ensuring that Filipino doctors and wider IMG communities have a voice in national conversations affecting medical training, workforce equality, and NHS patient care.
BAFPS welcomes the publication of this important report and recognises the need for careful scrutiny of the Medical Training Prioritisation Bill, particularly in relation to its potential impact on international medical graduates, workforce equality, medical training pathways, and NHS patient care.
We recognise the anxiety and uncertainty that proposed changes to medical training may create for international medical graduates, many of whom have worked tirelessly to support the NHS and the communities it serves. BAFPS stands with Filipino doctors and the wider IMG community to advocate for fairness, transparency, and purposeful engagement. We call on NHS stakeholders, Royal Colleges, medical training bodies, and relevant government agencies to work collaboratively with IMG communities to ensure that any proposed changes are evidence-based, proportionate, and do not unintentionally disadvantage doctors who continue to make vital contributions to patient care.

Dr Kevin Beatson (BAFPS President) and Dr Paul Bisnar (PRO) attended the 165th birth anniversary celebration of Philippine national hero, Dr Jose Rizal, at the Knights of Rizal Kumander’s Ball yesterday, led by Sir Ronald Sipat.
The evening featured patriotic songs, kundiman performances, Makata poetry, and traditional Filipino cultural dances — a meaningful reminder of the richness of our heritage and the beauty of being Filipino 🇵🇭🤝🇬🇧
