Para pensar: “El tribalismo triunfará: La política de la fertilidad”:

Los autores de este artículo sostienen que el liberalismo triunfó a corto plazo -derechos individuales, propiedad privada, mercados y poder descentralizado- y generó prosperidad, pero lleva en sí las condiciones de su propio declive a largo plazo.

El argumento combina cultura y biología. El liberalismo debilita los lazos tribales, religiosos y patrióticos al priorizar proyectos individuales. Eso se asocia con caídas de la fecundidad ya que donde baja la fe, baja también el número de hijos. Además, la orientación política es moderadamente heredable, de modo que quienes por temperamento son menos religiosos o patrióticos tienden a tener menos hijos. Con el tiempo, las personalidades y culturas más cohesivas y pronatalistas ganan peso demográfico.

Israel sirve de caso extremo. Lo fundaron judíos asquenazíes seculares, pero las políticas pronatalistas y el entorno institucional permitieron que los ortodoxos (más religiosos y conservadores) tuvieran muchos más hijos. El resultado es que la sociedad se vuelve más religiosa y conservadora, y es el único país desarrollado con fecundidad por encima del reemplazo (incluso los seculares tienen más hijos que en otros países ricos).

Los autores concluyen que, a escala de siglos, alguna combinación de religiosidad, nacionalismo y etnocentrismo -formas de cohesión grupal que favorecen la natalidad- sustituirá las normas liberales. El “tribalismo” no es necesariamente destructivo: el amor y la amistad también son parroquiales. Ellos distinguen un tribalismo ciego (que puede autodestruirse, como el nacionalsocialismo) de un tribalismo ilustrado que consistiría en cultivar la lealtad a la familia, nación y civilización; en mantener instituciones útiles del liberalismo (propiedad, mercados, límites al poder arbitrario); pero anteponer la continuidad demográfica y la cohesión cuando chocan con la elección individual (servicio nacional, apoyo fiscal a familias, currículos que enfatizan tradiciones propias).

En resumen, el liberalismo como filosofía rectora no durará porque sacrifica obligaciones colectivas en favor de la autonomía individual. La pregunta no es si volverán los lazos tribales, sino si lo harán de forma prudente y recíproca o de formas autodestructivas.

Mao – The Bloodiest Idiot Who Ever Lived

Between 45 and 80 million dead. Not in war. Not in camps, mostly. In peacetime, in a country at peace with itself, killed by a series of decisions so stupid that a competent farmer could have refuted every one of them in an afternoon. This is what happens when a warlord with no education in anything runs a billion people – and is applauded from Paris while he does it.

1. The sparrows. In 1958 he decided the birds were eating the grain. So the entire country was mobilized to kill them: villagers banging pots and drums for days so the sparrows could not land, until they dropped dead from exhaustion. Hundreds of millions killed. Then came the locusts, which the sparrows had been eating. The harvest was devoured. The country had to import sparrows from the Soviet Union. A single conversation with an ornithologist – or a farmer – would have prevented it. There was no such conversation, because by then nobody told Mao anything he had not already decided.

2. The backyard furnaces. He wanted to overtake British steel production, so ordinary people were ordered to smelt steel in their yards. Millions of households melted down their own pots, tools, door handles and farm implements in mud furnaces, burning their furniture and their doors for fuel. What came out was unusable pig iron, immediately discarded. They had destroyed working tools to produce slag. And they had done it during harvest season, so the crops rotted in the fields while the peasantry played at metallurgy.

3. The planting theories. Close planting: crowd the seeds together, because plants of the same class do not compete. Deep ploughing: turn the soil to two metres, because deeper roots mean bigger yields. Both were nonsense, both were imposed nationwide on the authority of a man who had never farmed, and both destroyed the harvest wherever they were applied. The agronomists who knew better had learned what happened to agronomists who knew better.

4. Then the lie ate the country. Local officials, facing quotas and terror, reported harvests that did not exist. The state requisitioned grain proportional to the fake numbers. So the villages that had reported the biggest imaginary surpluses had the most real grain taken away. People starved beside empty granaries while China exported food to prove the Leap was working. This is the systemic lie in its purest form: a country that had made truth a crime, then starved on the arithmetic.

5. Between 45 and 80 million dead. The range is that wide because nobody counted – counting would have been a political act. And when Mao was informed, at the Lushan conference in 1959, that the policy was killing people, the man who told him was denounced and purged, and the campaign was intensified. There is no version of this where he did not know. There is only a version where knowing did not matter.

6. Then he did it again to the mind. The Cultural Revolution: students beating teachers, children denouncing parents, temples and libraries and instruments burned, a decade spent severing a four-thousand-year-old civilization from its own memory. Not a side effect – the objective. Destroy the transmission and the new man appears. The new man did not appear. Only the wreckage did.

7. And all the while, Paris applauded. The French intelligentsia – professors, editors, philosophers, entire journals – declared Maoism the future, made the Little Red Book fashionable, and treated any report of the famine as reactionary propaganda. They were not deceived; the reports were available. They simply preferred the theory to the peasants. Sartre and his circle backed the Cultural Revolution while it was burning the libraries. They paid nothing. They were never asked to.

The lesson is not that Mao was evil, though he was. It is that he was stupid – and that stupidity at the top is only lethal when nothing below can correct it. Kill the price signal, kill the free press, kill the expert who contradicts you, and there is no mechanism left to stop a bad idea about sparrows before it becomes forty-five million funerals.

Every system that abolishes correction eventually kills at the scale of its own ignorance. Mao’s ignorance was enormous, and so was his population.

And his portrait still hangs over Tiananmen Square.

Me parece extremadamente interesante este artículo de @quintanapaz porque ya sabéis que todo esto de la relación entre wokismo y cristianismo me fascina.

Sólo le pongo una pega a Quintana Paz: el wokismo 1 ya infiltró el cristianismo. Quizás no tanto el catolicismo aquí en Europa, pero sí el protestantismo de EEUU. Tendría que buscarlo en la hemeroteca pero he visto discursos de pastores protestantes totalmente wokes hace ya años.

En el fondo, y coincido en eso con Miguel Angel, el wokismo es una herejía del cristianismo con el que tiene mucho en común: “los últimos serán los primeros”, defender a los pobres y marginales… Josua Mitchell dice en American Awakening: Identity Politics and Other Afflictions of Our Time: “Estamos viviendo en medio de un Despertar americano, sin Dios y sin perdón.”

Os extraigo del artículo de Quintana Paz los tres motivos por los que cabe sospechar que el alto clero católico va a sucumbir ante el wokismo 2:

“El primer motivo reside en la misma razón por la que lo woke 1 también resultó y resulta atractivo a muchos cristianos: el wokismo se hace pasar por una idea evangélica (ayudar a las víctimas)… cuando en realidad es una herejía del cristianismo (que diviniza a las víctimas). El woke se disfraza bajo su preocupación por los débiles, los pobres, los discriminados y así entra a menudo, enmascarado, en los salones cristianos; pero, una vez ya dentro de ellos, entonces se despoja de su máscara y se pone a buscar la venganza contra los «privilegiados»: es en ese resentimiento donde revela su carácter anticristiano. ¿Un truco fácil? Sí, pero también muy eficaz. Nada menos que en el siglo II, san Ireneo ya nos advirtió de cómo las herejías tratan de ataviarse para parecer más verdaderas que la verdad.

El segundo motivo por el que el wokismo 2 resulta amenazante para la Iglesia católica estriba en que, en realidad, esta aún no se ha recuperado del todo de la fiebre que supuso la Teología de la Liberación a partir de los años 70; fiebre de especial virulencia entre muchos de sus intelectuales y dirigentes. Y hay muchos aspectos del wokismo 2 que se pueden considerar emparentados con tal teología: no en vano ambos movimientos descienden, en última instancia, de las teorías anticoloniales. Lo decíamos en nuestro artículo de hace quince días: si la papisa del wokismo 1 fue Judith Butler, el pope del wokismo 2 será Frantz Fanon. Por consiguiente, tanto los teólogos de la liberación como los wokistas 2 insistirán en confundir la religión con la política; en aupar como nuevos dioses a todos cuantos procedan de países en dificultades; en articular todo nuestro pensamiento y acción en torno a ellos, que deberán ser reputados como víctimas perpetuas e incuestionables; en fomentar, al final, el odio y el autoodio hacia los occidentales.

Por último, el tercer motivo por el que el wokismo 2 va a triunfar en muchos ámbitos eclesiales resulta el más pedestre, y da un poco de pudor decirlo. Pero nadie se fiaría de un juez que cobra millones de euros de una de las partes en conflicto; y mucho me temo que las dotes de buena parte de nuestro clero para juzgar sobre inmigración adolecen de ese mismo defecto. Pues sucede que obispos y religiosos reciben mucho, pero que mucho dinero, a cuenta de la inmigración, el nuevo portaestandarte del wokismo 2.”

The Death of Reason: The Left Is Incapable of True Intellectualism

In reality there is no such thing as a Left-Wing Academic. Here is why:

The modern left-wing academic is a paradox wrapped in a degree and sealed with a lie. They claim the mantle of intellectualism while systematically destroying the very foundations of rational inquiry. True scholarship demands a ruthless pursuit of truth, no matter how uncomfortable or inconvenient. The left, however, demands the suppression of truth if it contradicts their sacred narratives. They do not seek knowledge; they seek validation. An intellectual who refuses to follow the evidence where it leads is not an intellectual at all. They are a priest in a secular religion of victimhood, and their temples of higher learning have become indoctrination camps.

Look at the data. A 2020 study by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education found that 60% of students feel they cannot express their true opinions on campus without fear of punishment. This is not an environment of free inquiry. It is a totalitarian reeducation program. When 90% of faculty donations go to one political party, as seen in FEC records, the idea of "diverse viewpoints" is a joke. They have created an echo chamber so dense that reality cannot penetrate it. They call this education. We call it brainwashing. An intellectual framework that requires the silencing of dissent is intellectually bankrupt.

Their history is a litany of failures. Every major economic system they have attempted to implement has resulted in poverty, famine, and death. From the Soviet Union to Venezuela, the body count of left-wing ideology is measured in millions. Yet, they continue to push these same discredited ideas. Why? Because they are not interested in results. They are interested in power. They use the language of compassion to mask a deep-seated hatred for success, freedom, and individual achievement. They claim to care about the poor while their policies keep people in dependency. This is not ignorance. It is a calculated strategy to maintain a permanent underclass of voters.

The term "academic" implies a certain level of rigor and objectivity. The left has abandoned both. They have replaced peer review with cancel culture. They have replaced debate with shouting down opponents. They have replaced facts with "feelings" and " lived experiences." This is not scholarship. It is emotional manipulation. A real academic welcomes challenges to their ideas. A left-wing academic calls the police. They cannot defend their ideas on the battlefield of ideas, so they try to shut the battlefield down. This is the tactic of the weak, the cowardly, and the intellectually dishonest.

Consider their track record on science when it conflicts with their ideology. They reject biological reality regarding gender. They deny the science of genetics when it comes to race and intelligence. They oppose nuclear energy and fracking, pushing policies that would destroy our economy and energy independence. They are anti-science whenever science disagrees with them. They are not intellectuals. They are activists with a grant budget. A true intellectual follows the data. The left follows the dopamine hit of moral superiority. There is a vast difference, and it is time we stopped pretending otherwise.

The era of the left-wing intellectual is over. They have exposed themselves as frauds, charlatans, and enemies of truth.

They have no respect for history, no understanding of economics, and no commitment to scientific integrity. They are a cancer on our institutions, and the only way to save our universities is to cut them out. We must defund their departments, fire their tenured radicals, and rebuild our educational system on the principles of truth, liberty, and free inquiry. The left cannot be reformed. It must be removed. Their time is up, and the world is better off without their poisonous influence.

Karl Marx – The Man.

You know him as the author of the Manifesto.
But behind the manifesto there was a man – an envious, deceitful and lazy one – constitutionally averse to productive work. The theory is just a result of that. It is the man, elevated into a system.

Do you recognize any of this in the socialists and communists around you? Read on.

1. His father Heinrich was a hardworking lawyer from Trier who wrote his son letters in the tone of a man watching a slow-motion disaster he cannot stop. Not angry – exhausted. "Is your heart in accord with your head, your talents?" he wrote in 1837. "Is that demon heavenly or Faustian? Will you ever be capable of truly human, domestic happiness?" The tone was like: "My heart often sinks when I think of you and your future." The despairing correspondence of a disciplined, hardworking man who cannot understand what is wrong with his brilliant, promising, and comprehensively useless son. A loving father watching his brilliant son consume money, accumulate debts, drink heavily as a student, produce poetry of remarkable mediocrity, and demonstrate a comprehensive inability to translate intelligence into anything useful. A father asking his clever son whether he is a visionary or a catastrophe. The answer turned out to be both. Heinrich died before seeing the full scope of the disappointment. He was spared the Manifesto.

2. He never worked. The foundational fact about the man who devoted his life to the theory of labor. For most of his adult life he was kept by Friedrich Engels – son of a factory owner, manager of a Manchester textile mill – who spent his days doing the precise capitalist management the theory condemned, so that Marx could theorize about it in comfort. Engels also paid the rent, covered the debts, funded the cigars, and at one point claimed paternity of Marx’s illegitimate child – born to the family’s unpaid servant – to protect his friend’s reputation. The servant was not paid. The child was not acknowledged. The theory of "liberation" was produced in conditions of domestic exploitation that would have embarrassed a Victorian mill owner. If you remember Rousseau you’ll notice a pattern here…

3. Helene Demuth – cooked, cleaned, raised the Marx children, and managed the household through decades of poverty that was chronic not because of capitalism but because Marx could not hold a job and would not try. Her specific working-class life was spent in unpaid service to the man theorizing about her liberation. He did not liberate her. He did not pay her. He fathered her child, denied it, and let Engels take the blame. The secret held until after both men were dead. Engels confessed on his deathbed.

4. The debts are almost comic. In one year at university he spent 700 talers – his father noted with incredulous precision that "the richest spend less than 500." Expelled from Belgium, France, and Prussia. Ended up in London, stateless, in damp apartments, pawning the family silver, writing to Engels for money with the regularity of a man who has made extracting funds from a friend into an art form. Several of his children died young in conditions produced by his inability to earn. Marx noted the deaths in letters and continued the manuscript.

5. The envy is the key to everything. A brilliantly clever man who felt the world had not given him his due – who watched others succeed and experienced their success as an offense requiring theoretical explanation. The result: the most sophisticated intellectual expression of resentment ever produced. A complete systematic account of why the successful are guilty, why their success is stolen, and why the man who has not succeeded is the true repository of value. A theory of envy with footnotes. Nietzsche called this ressentiment. He was describing the same type, from a different angle, at roughly the same time.

6. He died in 1883. Eleven people attended the funeral. Engels compared him to Darwin – generous, since Darwin spent twenty years accumulating evidence before publishing and Marx spent twenty years accumulating debt. His wife had died two years earlier, exhausted. His servant had spent a lifetime unpaid. His illegitimate son grew up unacknowledged. The Manifesto was by then on its way to inspiring experiments that would kill approximately a hundred million people.

7. The Manifesto was not written from the bottom. It was written by a clever man funded by a factory owner’s son, who had never done a day of proletarian labor, who exploited the people closest to him, whose father despaired of him, and whose considerable talents were deployed entirely in explaining why the world owed him more than it had given. Look around you. The envious intellectual who has never built anything but knows exactly what is wrong with everything others have built. The "man of the people" who cannot manage his own affairs. The revolutionary funded by the people he condemns. You have met this person. You may have voted for him.

El Gran Despertar woke ocurrió cuando las ideologías de centroizquierda se volvieron de alto estatus:

Este es un artículo muy largo, pero la esencia de lo que nos quiere transmitir Michael Magoon, a mi modo de ver, claro, sería esta: el Great Awokening (Wokismo) de los años 2010 no cayó del cielo. Durante décadas, en la clase profesional universitaria -sobre todo en las grandes ciudades de las costas- una moral de centroizquierda se fue volviendo marca de estatus: señal de que eres educado, sofisticado y decente. Cambiar de opinión es una cosa pero que esa opinión te clasifique como persona es otra. Quien la afirma entra en el club. Quien la cuestiona parece tosco, egoísta o sospechoso. Eso ya estaba listo antes de que el woke explotara.

Esa moral dice: una sociedad justa es una sociedad donde los grupos acaban más o menos igual. El problema es que, después de muchos años de leyes, ayudas y dinero público, las diferencias entre grupos siguieron ahí. Entonces hay que elegir. O se admite que la promesa no se cumplió (y quizá no se puede cumplir del todo). O se busca otra explicación. Lo primero duele, porque en esos círculos estar a favor de esa igualdad es lo que te hace buena persona. Así que gana lo segundo: si las brechas siguen, el sistema tiene que estar oprimiendo todavía, aunque ya no se vea un racista de cartel.

Los millennials se toman esa idea en serio. Obama no trae el país sin diferencias raciales que muchos esperaban. En los 2010 estallan las protestas. Y aquí viene el giro institucional: el centroizquierda que ya mandaba en universidades, periódicos y empresas no puede plantarse. Ellos mismos habían convertido en tabú cualquier otra causa de la desigualdad. Solo les queda tragar o fingir, porque si dicen que no, los señalan como racistas. Por eso, según Magoon, el wokismo no se quedó en la calle y se metió en las instituciones. Si esa moral no hubiera sido la de quienes mandan, el ruido habría sido mucho menor.

En Amérique, il devient le compagnon et presque le fils du chef des insurgés, George Washington. Il est blessé au combat et gagne le cœur de tout un peuple, qui n'oubliera jamais ce jeune Français venu se battre pour lui sans rien demander.

De retour en France, c'est un héros. Quand la Révolution éclate, on lui confie la garde de Paris. C'est lui qui impose les trois couleurs, le bleu, le blanc et le rouge, réunies sur une même cocarde.

La suite est plus rude. Trop royaliste pour les révolutionnaires, trop révolutionnaire pour les rois, il est jeté cinq ans dans les prisons d'Autriche. Il en ressort ruiné, mais vivant.

En 1824, vieil homme, il retraverse l'océan. Les États-Unis, devenus une nation, l'accueillent comme un père fondateur. Dans chaque État qu'il traverse, des foules immenses pleurent en le voyant passer.

Il meurt à Paris en 1834. Sur sa tombe, on a répandu de la terre rapportée d'Amérique, du champ de bataille de Bunker Hill.

Depuis, un drapeau américain y flotte en permanence. Il n'a même pas été retiré quand les Allemands occupaient Paris.
