Easy to understand why the Scottish Greens wouldn’t want any inquiry into political parties given the appalling way they have treated many feminist & LGB members & Andy Wightman not to mention the murky goings on in their selection processes. Nothing to see here folks.
Last night, the House chose to stand with Ukraine, and I was proud to cast my vote.
We passed military and reconstruction aid for Ukraine, plus hard new sanctions on Russia.
We did it over the objections of Mike Johnson and Republican leadership, who spent over a year trying to keep this bill from ever hitting the floor.
Eighteen Republicans crossed the aisle and did the right thing.
Why does this matter?
Because when a giant authoritarian state invades a smaller democracy, there is no gray area. There is no “both sides.”
Vladimir Putin is a thug. He started an unprovoked war. He flattened cities. He stole children from their families. Helping Ukraine isn’t charity. It’s the test of whether we still mean a single word we say about freedom.
I heard every excuse. The war’s winding down, they said, so let’s wait and see. Nonsense. You don’t strengthen a democracy by going wobbly the second things get hard. You don’t stop the next invasion by telling the world American resolve comes with an expiration date. Putin is watching. So is every dictator who dreams of taking what isn’t his by force.
This bill still has to clear the Senate and survive a presidential signature. The odds are long. But the House did its job. And we said it plainly: no country gets swallowed whole just because a tyrant wants it.
I’ll keep fighting to see this through. Ukraine’s fight is our fight, and we do not abandon our friends.

I agree with everything you say. I’m glad I saw it all, dreadful though it was. But I’m determined that the Chinese govt and its stooges can’t pretend it didn’t happen, simply because they’re embarrassed by it.
The other thing about Darren Jones. He attempted to cover up his message to Peter Mandelson. He's literally the Minister responsible for ensuring the Government complies with parliament's demand all messages between Mandeslon and Ministers are published.
Let’s nail this state lie once and for all. The government is NOT increasing defence spending by £270 billion during this parliament. It is a ludicrous claim.
Yet one Keir Starmer made to Parliament’s Liaison Committee in March: Labour, he said, will “spend £270 billion MORE (my emphasis) than we would otherwise have done on defence” in this Parliament.
Starmer has always been weak on facts and figures but even by his standards this is a massive porkie.
This is the truth: £270 billion is the total cumulative projected defence spending for the four financial years from 2025/26 up to and including 2028/29 lumped together.
It is NOT even the cumulative increase in defence spending during these years.
Nobody (except perhaps Gordon Brown) speaks about public spending in this way, unless the intention is massively to mislead.
By 28/29 defence spending is projected to be £13 billion a year more than at the start of the period. So not exactly £270 billion. But I guess if you’re going to lie you might as well make it a whopper.
@afneil Thanks Andrew for highlighting these records. Ed fails to see low energy costs help businesses and domestic users help grow the economy. Until there is a change in policy, the UK will struggle with growth costing everyone
For years she was running to every microphone in sight. Now exposed for the utter charlatan and embezzlement enabler she is -- she's having it on her toes. #Frankly, you can run Nicola but you can't hide!!
When the finance & audit committee &the treasurer & Jo Cherry resigned because they had no access to the books & no answers on missing funds
And Peter was flush with cash
& spending extravagantly
Sturgeon had no suspicion
Today came as a complete shock?
@afneil Thank you Andrew for plain speaking over this. The government are trying to bamboozle those who question them but the public aren't fools and will wonder what the hell is going on.
Ed Miliband is shutting down our oil and gas production in the North Sea.
At the same time, his government is lifting sanctions on Russian oil.

MAGYAR: Ukraine is the victim, and it has every right to protect its territorial sovereignty and integrity by all means at its disposal. I would also like to emphasize this, because independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine were guaranteed by Budapest Memorandum in 1994.
