I'm excited that the movie is good but I do think the Tomato Meter has broadly been very bad for culture and how we look at movies. Everyone's obsessed with movies getting a perfect score instead of allowing art to be a little messy and allowing a variety of views on it
It’s a funny coincidence how our tech overlords hot takes always mysteriously line up with whatever will grant them maximum profits and minimum accountability. Every time!
@Breakdown64 Oh, it had just been like a year since I’d played any of it.
Was easier to start from scratch than figure out what I had already done or remember controls and mechanics.
Better flow. Pretty fun game.
2 years and a restart later, I’ve finally finished Midnight Suns.
Had a good time, wish exploration & mission progression gelled a bit better + probably would’ve preferred a straight XCOM to the card system, but was really into it by the end.
Also reaffirms my decision to start playing most titles AFTER all updates. Almost always a better experience w/patches and dlc.
IMO, why a lot of games “underperform.”
Lot of stuff might as well launch early access. I find it hard to invest time when it’s improved a year later.
Dairanger 14-15:
Huh. Saba/Tiger Sword is straight up a Sword in the Stone analogue.
Three Stooges are kinda…greaser dirtbag monsters? Sentai is alright.
Just having a soccer match to the death against their eternal enemies - Anderlecht Champion playing and everything.
Nothing new that all these industry buyouts and mergers are awful long-term, but I’m really bummed losing Monolith.
I loved No One Lives Forever and Condemned. That first Mordor was pretty cool. Crazy that WB patented the Nemesis System with nothing to come from it for a decade.
After watching the Dairangers fight a Kabuki man on a rooftop, I now need an open world Sentai game in the style of Yakuza/Like a Dragon.
Choose your hero in free roam and side content with specific missions tailored to each of the 5-6 individuals?
Keeping variations of the original costumes all through MMPR & a lot of the main villains, I don’t think it’ll be a very close adaptation through the rest of Dai and then Kakuranger, until Zeo/Ohranger.
While it’ll take forever, so far happy with my decision to watch Rangers & its equivalent Sentai season together.
Though they’re wildly different in a way that’s uncomparable.
Today’s Dairanger Watch:
A tofu monster gets them drunk via alcohol spray.
Also they foil a plot undercover as Cotpotros. I’m trying to imagine the equivalent of Rangers ever posing as Putties.
Project the last couple months has been experimenting to streamline my media enjoyment and better budget time.
I want to get back to focusing on and fully taking in the books and video games and film I consume without multitasking or other distractions.
Almost there.
Forwent movies this weekend to start on catching up the 20 Sentai episodes I needed so I can watch alongside Rangers as close to 1:1 as possible.
Should get there mid-week. Then hopefully on a pretty comfortable 90 minute watch routine per night. Wiggle room for 2hr+ films.
Thing I really appreciate about Sentai over Rangers is escalation.
Usually entire team character growth through the season, they gain powers, zords, etc. not there at the start. Villains have organization hierarchy they work their way through…
I’ve often wondered what if Rangers just kept adapting each new Sentai costume-mecha-villain aesthetic while rotating cast and keeping a continuous narrative going for decades rather than adopting soft launch seasons in a semi-connected universe.
