In 2 weeks I’m moving to NYC. It’s been my dream for a long time and I’ve been so unhappy where I’m at. I will finish this #PhD, but I will not be looking for a job in academia and I’m not sure what’s next. I just know I’m moving in the best direction for me.
There is something incomparably charming about a person with an intense passion for a specific kind of animal. The more obscure the better. If people ask your favorite animal & you get out your phone because it's gonna require some explanation & be a whole thing, you're my people
Nothing frustrates me more than senior faculty telling PhD students to just follow their passion and things will be alright. As an already-not-so-recent PhD who was on the market for two years before securing a permanent position, I can say that this is not how it works anymore.
