I found out recently that in Lagos State, for about 5 years now, everytime they recharge with MTN, Airtel, 9 Mobile, or make a purchases with Master Card or to Lagos State Govt etc, people got cash-token rewards which included an automatic ticket that qualified them for a weekly consumer cash reward program draw, where they have been winning ₦5k-₦100m weekly. I learnt that N15billion was given out to people in the last year and I've been wondering how this didn't make the news. The initiative is unique because you don’t need to register or sign up for anything, just make a purchase like you would normally and the system automatically logs you in for the draw. Outside Lagos (Eko Token), states such as Ondo (Sunshine token) have also seen the need for a Cash Reward Programme and they’ve partnered with Cahstoken in achieving this.

Last week, I learnt that the FG struck an agreement with a company through the National Lottery Regulation Commission to replicate that type of Consumption Reward System at the Federal Level, in a bid to redistribute wealth and optimize local consumers' loyalty to brands—which is paramount at this critical period. In my view, this is a better initiative than the conditional cash transfer that has failed everytime.

With this idea, analysts have projected that the FG through the partnership can re-distribute up to ₦5Trillion in cash rewards annually to consumers, to spur economic growth.

I'll like to see how this works out for real. On paper, it looks sustainable cos It's not like people would be winning magic money out of nowhere, it’s a consumer performance based reward system designed to optimize Customer Loyalty and incentivize patronage of local businesses.
