@NielSwart_ZA It was a pleasure. Yes, we mustn’t forget G-EUPJ, originally planned to be the first to retire, but now the last of the set still flying.
Now is not the time, but maybe, in a few years, we’ll see one more genuine Landor retrojet in the skies again, with a G-VII* B777. Who knows.
Simply stunning shot of G-BYGC in motion, as she accelerates on her final take-off roll from Cardiff Airport today, by @CardiffOTT
Thank you so much for sharing it Peter.
To the followers of BA’s retrojets worldwide in 2019, the official news that both the @British_Airways B747-400 retrojets BOAC (G-BYGC) and Landor (G-BNLY) are to be preserved is hugely significant. All four B747s (including G-CIVW) will need supporting. https://t.co/jHL3XdooQL
Delighted this is now official. B747-436 G-BNLY, wearing Landor, is now the most historically significant aircraft in the BA subsonic fleet, so she had to be preserved. Sam Tripp & Mike Bartils deserve proper recognition for their huge efforts since August, in this regard. 👏
So there we have it, the BOAC retrojet was your most popular #BA100 livery from a very special year.
Thank you everyone for taking part and sharing your great photos. I leave you with my favourite BOAC B747-400 image of the year, kindly shared by @DWHonan
Enjoy the retrojets !
Here is a reminder of the contenders.
BEA A319 (@andyd888 ), BOAC B744 (@AirlineGeeks) and BA Landor B744 (@DENAirport). All are fantastic photos, but remember we are voting for the best livery, rather than photo. Poll closes at 9pm tonight. What a great year #BA100 has been.
So here we go, with the poll of polls.
Which is your favourite #BA100 retrojet livery ? Landor won by a mile yesterday with 65% of the vote, to represent BA post 1974, but which is your overall favourite when up against both the classic BEA red square & timeless BOAC Speedbird ?
@Airdrew5 Stunning photo & a beautiful aircraft. Personally the B747-236s were the best jumbos BA ever had. Upgraded engines allowed non-stop Hong Kong flights & the 3 man flightdeck & analogy instruments were wonderful to work with. X-ray November was one of three Combi's BA had from new.
Now here's a wonderful selection of photos of the BA Landor liveried B747-400 retrojet G-BNLY. Thanks for sharing Tyler.
Just over an hour to go before the poll closes on tonight's semifinal. Get voting if you haven't already. #BA100
Looking simply stunning James. What great light 😍
Don't forget our poll, closing at 9pm tonight (GMT), to determine which BA livery (since 1974) will feature in a 3 way head to head poll tomorrow against the BEA & BOAC retrojet liveries, to determine the overall winner. #BA100
A reminder of the four BA liveries. Negus & Negus 1st (full British Airways title), Negus & Negus 2nd (just British titles, as shown on the B757 retrojet of 2010), Landor, and Utopia (Chelsea Rose), widely regarded as the best of that livery series. Voting closes at 9pm tonight.
Vote for your favourite @British_Airways livery of the past. The B757 retrojet is from the B757 fleet retirement in 2010 whilst the Chelsea Rose is the Utopia one so many of us wanted to see again in 2019. Winner will poll against BEA & BOAC tomorrow. Photos below (1/2)
@JamesWorldNews Yes I believe that is the case, unless plans have changed. It was always the case she was the first to go, early in 2020, whilst the 3 B744 retrojets will be amongst the last batch of BA B744 to be retired, in 3 to 4 years time.
This ramp action shot of Landor liveried B744 G-BNLY is another stunning shot, floodlit on the apron under a crescent moon. Thanks go to @Indian_Spotter for sending this in. Catch the BA B747 fleet on selective Delhi & Mumbai flights in summer 2020, hopefully with a retrojet.
In case you missed this stunning shot of A319 G-EUPJ, taken in Salzburg in March, here it is again.
This has to be a contender for best @British_Airways retrojet photograph of the year. 😍

Camelback Mountain behind, taken by Kory (@KTC_Photography) of the Negus & Negus liveried B744 G-CIVB landing on R/W26 at Phoenix Sky Harbor. Good news if you like the B747 on this route from LHR, she'll be returning to PHX selectively throughout the summer, including all of Sept
This has to be another contender for best photo, by @AirbusRed, of A319 G-EUPJ, wearing BEA colours. She will be the first of the 4 retrojets to leave the fleet, provisionally in Feb 2020, so catch her whilst you can, before she's retired.
Well here we go, and what an amazing photo to start with, taken by @annerogersphoto, of G-BYGC in BOAC colours, alongside the @rafredarrows at the 2019 RIAT. #BA100
@BAretrojets@Tim_the_Pilot An advantage of shooting from the campsite I was on for @airtattoo was that #BA100's BOAC liveried 747 flew right over the top of us! One of those fantastic 'airshow moments'. :)
As 2019 draws to a close I hope you've all enjoyed the #BA100 retro liveries. I'm sorry the advance notice had to be suspended as BA's new social media rules interfered with the intent here. I'll retweet any favourite photos you send me of the fleet. Best regards, @Tim_the_Pilot
