This winter is no joke. When there's no option, and all doors are closed on you, can you image how it would feel to have a protective piece of equipment that can keep you warm, dry, and ALIVE in the snow? Nobody should ever be turned away from a shelter without a Backpack Bed.
One Backpack Bed costs $144 and saves the taxpayer $3,319 in avoided ER visits and justice costs. The math is clear, yet we continue to watch "undetermined" deaths rise during every ice storm. Why are we choosing to pay for a crisis instead of funding the solution?
Portable protection from the elements. Life-saving in freezing temperatures. Waterproof, fire-retardant, insect mesh, in-built mattress. A bit of dignity. It's the minimum that anyone deserves.
When you leave a human being on the concrete in sub-zero temperatures without adequate protective equipment, there is no mystery. Freezing temperatures. No shelter. How do you think they died?
