@SheepEtiquette@yumeneko_003@M1das_OW2 Across the word, evil spirits are evil spirit, cultures with Abrahamic or Pagan influence refer to evil spirits as demons just like how other cultures refer to evil spirits by local name. If a fictional race isn't evils spirits and the author does so, they are lazy.
@SheepEtiquette@yumeneko_003@M1das_OW2 In several depictions, the mischievous nature of elves in cranked further to play pranks that lead to death, but they have depictions of elves that protect children because of their playful nature.
@SheepEtiquette@yumeneko_003@M1das_OW2 In Nordic folklore, elves are human height. I only mentioned the most common traits between several depictions of elves across the entire European continent. The difference are from the different experiences of those people that later became word of mouth.
@SheepEtiquette@yumeneko_003@M1das_OW2 Yokai & oni mean evil spirit, commonly translated into the word demon. When Japanese explain yokai & oni, they use the word demon so english speakers understand. Because they're all evil spirits, I know this because it's a common translation in texts, media, and conversation.
@SheepEtiquette@yumeneko_003@M1das_OW2 From the little that I searched, amongst Europeans elves always live in the forrest, are spirits/supernatural beings spawned from the forest that protect the forest/inhabitants with mischievous tendencies. Most media stick to most of these traits.
@SheepEtiquette@yumeneko_003@M1das_OW2 Except the Japanese, Philippines, Russians, Spaniards, Germans, Chinese, Africans, Native Americans, and everyone else on the planet have called evil spirits by their local name or demon.
@SheepEtiquette@yumeneko_003@M1das_OW2 Then why do so many religions and folklore across the world depict demons as inhuman, supernatural, malicious spirits from a different realm only to cause suffering? Maybe it's because that's what they are, and completely deviations from that concept are not the same.
@SheepEtiquette@yumeneko_003@M1das_OW2 So far, fantasy hasn't fucked up the depictions of gnomes or elves. Nobody is out here depicting gnomes tall, no one is depicting elves as a race with a 20 year lifespan. But lazy writer will make a "demon" race that call themselves demons while doing the same thin as humans.
@SheepEtiquette@yumeneko_003@M1das_OW2 Human history has several hundreds of years worth of what demons are. There's a word to describe demon like actions, it's the word demonic. For the love of all that is holy, the robot in my pfp has more demonic traits than a boring anime "demon".
@SheepEtiquette@yumeneko_003@M1das_OW2 Calling something demon just to call it evil is lazy from a creator, in universe character, and reader standpoint.
@SheepEtiquette@yumeneko_003@M1das_OW2 Hideauzes are fictional space fairing squids that started as genetically altered humans that later evolved into violent monster from the anime Gargantia on the verdurous planet. You don't make up a fictional race, call them demons, and make them human adjacent to make the scary.
@SheepEtiquette@yumeneko_003@M1das_OW2 Humans with some horns aren't demons, lizardmen aren't demons, but malicious supernatural spirits are demons. Is this hard to understand?
@OkamiNight0@Krekkov Armor breaks, the best way for armor to do that is to soften the blow aka braking. There isn't a real use for level 4 plates on the battlefield since that level of protection isn't necessary. Unless we start fighting aliens, maybe.
@SheepEtiquette@yumeneko_003@M1das_OW2 I'm talking about media, not whatever the in universe story is. Media of any kind use concepts we already understand. But choosing to use the word demon to call a fictional race by classification like demi human is intentional. You know what a hideauze is?
@Krekkov Nothing will make small arms obsolete. Humans started throwing small sharp rocks, then spears, arrows, pellets, all the way to bullets. The projectile will persist till the end of time.
@BigPileOfEggs@AStupidJerk Going solar is the only "cheap" option, but often it's too expensive for families even though it's a decent investment. Can reduce the electricity bill over time.
@yumeneko_003@SheepEtiquette@M1das_OW2 Regardless of religion, demons are evil spirits similar to many religions across the world. Like I said, the trope of "demons" in anime being humans with horns/beast men that are the victim of discrimination from other races in the setting is garbage.
