The former Chief of Police in Kansas, a known Trump supporter, once went viral for lecturing Black Americans on parenting, arrogantly positioning himself as a moral authority. Yet, today, the truth reveals itself: he has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for heinous child pornography crimes.

It is not lost on us how frequently those who most vehemently criticize our communities are themselves steeped in corruption and depravity. This man, once entrusted with upholding the law, has proven himself to be a predator. Every case touched by his tainted hands demands reopening and dismissal.

And still, this administration pushes to grant officers qualified immunity, an unchecked shield that enables injustice. How many more disgraces must we endure before we dismantle these protections that perpetuate abuse? Black America has long known the truth: the systems meant to protect too often serve to oppress.
