We’ve heard a lot about rising egg prices, but one agency that hasn’t felt the increase is the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office. The county owns its own farm to feed inmates at the jail. Tonight at 5 and 6 I’ll show you how the program saves money — and changes lives.
The second witness, Brett Inglehart, is now on the stand. He was the Sergeant over Green at the time of his death. He says he found Green’s body in the bathtub after he didn’t show up to work.
After a break for lunch, court resumes. The prosecution is reading a 2019 testimony by Dr. Garry Walter who performed the autopsy on Daniel Green. Dr. Walter testified that he found 4 gunshot wounds in Green’s hand, chest, neck and head.
They say Green came home from the gym, so Sandoval hid in her son’s closet. They say Green went to the bathroom and that’s when Sandoval came out of the closet and shot Green 4 times.
The defense is now beginning their opening statement. They say Sandoval does not deny killing Exeter Police Officer Daniel Green in 2015. What they contend — is why she did it.
They say she left work early on Feb. 6, 2015 and snuck into Green’s house to take back some of their son’s clothes and toys. They emphasize she did not enter the home with a gun, but found one in the home.
The defense says both Sandoval and Green were arrested for domestic violence in 2011. They confess the relationship was toxic, but claim it was Green’s abuse that drove her to kill him.
Alavezos introduced 12 witnesses during his opening statement. He told jurors that their testimonies will prove Sandoval guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He also says his team will present surveillance video from the crime scene throughout the trial, placing Sandoval there.
Erika Sandoval’s trial is beginning in a Porterville courtroom. Prosecutor David Alavezos is giving his opening statement now — he was also the prosecutor in her trial 5 years ago, which ended with a hung jury.
