PUBLIC meetings at a City Hall built with $97 MILLION of PUBLIC money should be open to the PUBLIC. Tenants wanting to talk to their elected officials before they vote to demolish their homes isn't a "safety issue", it's how local government works. Do better @CityofSurrey! (2/2)
Does this look like democracy to you?
This is how Elizabeth Manor tenants will watch Surrey Council vote on their demovictions on June 24th, online or standing on hot concrete behind glass, straining to hear over Skytrain noise. Security and the RCMP guard the doors. (1/2)
“It’s not the development; it’s the gentrification."
Check out Burnaby ACORN member Murray Martin talking to @TheTyee about why tenant displacement and unaffordable housing are the REAL boogeymen when it comes to upzoning and densification.
Why is "Metrotown" being used as a bad word?
It's a boogeyman of growth to a Port Moody mayor and some Tsawwassen and Kitsilano residents. It's a "dense, chaotic nightmare" that lacks parking to some in Burnaby.
A lil @TheTyee piece on these fears.

The cheapest 1 bedroom apartment in the entire Lower Mainland is $1500 in North Delta. Everything cheaper is either a basement suite, a secondary suite, or renting a room in a shared house or apartment. Why does it matter?
It’s clear the regulations that are supposed to protect tenants from wrongful evictions aren’t working. ACORN is demanding immediate action from the provincial government, to end no-fault evictions and close the landlord-use loophole.
Sign our petition to End No-Fault Evictions in BC, and send a letter directly to the Minister of Housing @KahlonRav demanding urgent action!
