Nearly 100 years ago Blackrock College installed electric lighting. Among the tenders was one from J.P. Tierney & Co. Engineers which priced the install of oil-powered generators as the most economical model. At £10 a ton, you can see why. @rockunion1898 @BlackrockColl

Always a nice surprise to come across decorative headed paper. These insurance policy certs from the early-20th c. are a great example, particularly the interlacing & ornamentation devoted to the lettering of the Irish Catholic Church Property Insurance Co. @BlackrockColl

I found this seasonally appropriate gem by chance as I tidy up for the Christmas break. Addressed to the Father Superior 'with M. O'Brien's compliments', it is a 6-page booklet written with a beautiful hand in 1880. The cherub-filled 'lift the flap' card is gorgeous.

Perhaps too early to post a Christmas card, but searching through the trove of cards designed for the college in Christmases past is making things feel festive. The simple nativity scene in blue, white & gold is a beautiful example of restrained, mid-20th c. design @BlackrockColl

Blackrock College Senior Team play Rockwell today. The Seniors of 1976-77 played & won Vs Rockwell in the inaugural friendly Dave O'Loughlin Memorial Trophy. O'Loughlin (class of 1934) was an outstanding school, university and international rugby player who died suddenly in 1971.

A complete set of programmes of the college's stage musicals from 1934 onwards provides an interesting view of the changes in light opera tastes, graphic design and social change - in 1982 the college started collaborating with local girls schools in annual productions.

Finally ordered a 'book sofa' for the archive from @preservation_e - we have so many delicate ledgers, photo albums and volumes that need extra support, as the spines are not in good shape. This way, the books can be opened and used without being damaged further. #archives
