I was catching up on Hard Knocks last night.
Jets Head Coach Robert Saleh expertly broke down the 4 levels of a competitor - a mindset that every individual has complete control over, regardless of skill or talent.
I promise everyone you work with falls into one of these 4 categories👇
Survivor: Someone who does just enough to get by, coasts through each and every day, does not maximize their mental capabilities, and LOVES taking the easy way out.
Contender: Someone motivated by external factors such as title, salary, or the person directly competing for the same promotion. This person will only reach their potential if external motivators are a threat.
Competitor: Someone who is internally motivated regardless of the situation. Money, title - none of this matters because they are already maximizing their potential every single day. This person focuses on the process and is confident that results will follow.
Commander: This person has all the traits of a Competitor with one exception. This person brings people with them, consistently achieves internal and external buy-in, and raises up those around them.
Most people you read business biographies on fall into the 4th category - Commander.
Business leaders are constantly trying to hire Competitors or Commanders.
The sad reality is that most people are just fine taking the easy way out.
Or searching for another company that'll pay them a little bit better. Or give them a better title. Contenders and Survivors.
So what are you? Who do you want to be?
I know I want to work with a group of Competitors and Commanders. Because high tides raise all sails ⛵️
I am excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and basketball career at Bemidji State University! I would like to thank all of my coaches, friends and family that helped me through this process. #GoBeavers#Committed
