Puppeteer Phil Tippett (who worked on creature effects for the original trilogy) came up with the name for Salacious B. Crumb, the shrieking Kowakian monkey-lizard court jester in Jabba the Hutt’s palace, after a boozy lunch with the crew. While trying to tie his shoes, he slurred “Wait a minute, guys, while I tie my soolacious.” George Lucas later approved “Salacious” while adding the surname “Crumb” as a tribute to underground comic artist Robert Crumb.
According to Star Wars lore, Crumb first entered Jabba’s service after stowing away on the Hutt’s starship. He was discovered and captured by majordomo Bib Fortuna. Jabba found the little creature amusing enough to keep around. Jabba struck a deal with the monkey-lizard: if Crumb could amuse him at least once a day, he could eat and drink as much as he pleased. If he failed, Jabba would kill him. Crumb survived this arrangement for well over a dozen standard years.
He almost certainly died in the sail barge explosion in “Return of the Jedi,” though. When Luke Skywalker destroyed Jabba’s sail barge over the Sarlacc pit, Crumb was still aboard. There is no confirmed survival in canon, so the little bastard likely went out the same way he lived: shrieking.
Somehow just now realizing that I was referenced in the Steven Spielberg Little Golden Book biography. I’m in shock!! Thank you to my incredibly talented friend Luke Flowers. What an honor!
Palpatine wasn’t slick at all. The guy had a giant 3D Death Star hologram sitting out in the open while Jedi were casually walking around. And I love how the villains always use red holograms—as if the entire galaxy comes with built-in color-coding for who not to trust.
In Terminator 3, the chest-expansion effect was achieved with inflatable air bladders hidden beneath the costume.
The actress Kristanna Loken couldn’t stop laughing because a crew member would literally pump them up by hand.
“It didn’t always work. Sometimes it popped.”
@dansoriano1515@jtimsuggs Clovis arc was boring. The yoda visions arc was boring. It had the worst jar jar episodes and the fives arc was alright though it introduced the stupid inhibitor chip
