On the margins of the Second World Social Summit held in Doha, Qatar, the State of Eritrea hosted a side event titled “Advancing Gender Equality and the Rights of Women and Girls: Eritrea’s Experience and Lessons Learned.”

The event highlighted #Eritrea’s integrated approach to gender equality as a central pillar of its national development and social transformation agenda.

Mr. Mehreteab Fessehaie, Director General of the Department of Social Welfare, presented Eritrea’s national framework and progress in advancing women’s rights, emphasizing the strong policy foundations and community-based implementation mechanisms that have driven tangible results. He also outlined Eritrea’s progress in the elimination of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Dr. Halima Mohammed from the Ministry of Education discussed education and empowerment as catalysts for social transformation, underscoring how equal access to education has expanded opportunities for women and girls across Eritrea. She highlighted the importance of mother-tongue education and outreach to remote and nomadic populations to ensure that no one is left behind.

A short video showcased Eritrea’s nationwide campaign to eradicate FGM, an inspiring example of community-led action and sustained public awareness to end harmful traditional practices.

#Eritrea’s campaign to eliminate FGM represents a multi-dimensional, homegrown model that combines law, education, community mobilization, religious engagement, and rigorous monitoring. While the 2007 Proclamation provided the legal foundation, true progress has emerged from grassroots behavioral change, evidenced by thousands of villages formally declaring the abandonment of the practice. Partnerships with UNICEF and UNFPA have further strengthened outreach, mapping, and data-driven monitoring, accelerating national momentum.

The recent visit of the Global Steering Committee on FGM/C, together with UN representatives, underscored international recognition of #Eritrea|s achievements and its readiness to share lessons learned. The Committee commended Eritrea’s comprehensive efforts, anchored in law, community action, including from religious leadership, as “clear evidence” that eradication by 2030 is achievable.

Ms. Nahla Valji, @UN Resident Coordinator in #Eritrea, shared her insights on Eritrea’s community based efforts in social development, advances in education and health, and commended the country’s achievements and reaffirmed the @UN|s continued collaboration in advancing gender equality and eliminating harmful practices, noting that the United Nations stands ready to support Eritrea’s national programs in line with its priorities.

The Second World Social Summit was an opportunity to assess global progress in implementing the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

#Eritrea actively engaged throughout the Summit, and shared its steadfast commitment to inclusive social development, equality, and human dignity as guiding principles of national policy.

#Eritrea's delegation, led by Mrs. Weini Gerezgiher, Charge d 'Affairs at the Eritrean Embassy in Saudi Arabia, is participating at 26th Session of the UN Tourism General Assembly convened in Riyadh.

In her address to the Assembly, Mrs. Weini underlined Eritrea's huge and multi-layered endowments in the sector as well as GOE's policy perspectives and programmes on developing the industry through a sustainable framework of cooperation and investment with its international and regional partners.

Condolences: Veteran freedom fighter, very dear colleague, and Head of Dimtsi Hafash Radio's Tigre Programme, Btsai Musa Mohamed Adem (Wedi Mender) has passed away at the age of 62 after a long illness. A talented journalist, author, poet, Radio Drama script writer and actor, Btsai Musa joined the ELF in 1977, and later the EPLF in 1986, and served his nation and people with exceptional distinction.

Funeral Service of Veteran Fighter Fesehaye Haile

The funeral service of veteran freedom fighter Fesehaye Haile (Afro), Governor of the Central Region, was held at Asmara Martyrs Cemetery today at 10:00 a.m. in the presence of President Isaias Afwerki, Ministers, senior government and PFDJ officials, Army Commanders, family members, and a large number of nationals.

Veteran freedom fighter Fesehaye Haile, who passed away on 4 November at the age of 78 due to illness, was one of the heroes produced by Eritrea’s struggle for independence. He devoted 52 years of his life to achieving national independence, safeguarding national sovereignty, and contributing to the nation-building process.

He joined the Eritrean People’s Liberation Forces in July 1973 after serving as a member of the “Tihisha” agitational group from 1972 to 1973.

During the armed struggle for independence, he served his nation and people with utmost dedication in various capacities, including as a combatant in the Eritrean People’s Liberation Army, and in the EPLF Departments of People’s Administration and Intelligence and Security.

After independence, veteran freedom fighter Fesehaye continued to serve his country as Deputy Governor of Asmara; Executive Director of the Northern Red Sea Region; Director General of the Customs Department at the Ministry of Finance; Director General of Civil Aviation; and Governor of the Gash-Barka and Central Regions, respectively.

President Isaias Afwerki laid a wreath on the tomb of veteran fighter Fesehaye Haile; Mr. Yemane Gebreab on behalf of the PFDJ; Ambassador Abdella Musa, Governor of the Anseba Region, on behalf of the Ministry of Local Government; Mr. Zerit Tewoldebrhan on behalf of the Central Region; and Mr. Gideon Fesehaye, son of the veteran fighter.

Veteran freedom fighter Fesehaye is survived by his wife and three children.

Expressing deep sorrow over the passing away of veteran freedom fighter Fesehaye Haile, the Ministry of Local Government conveys condolences to families and friends.

It is an inalienable sovereign right, a paramount national responsibility, and the very fundamental object of our arduously-won independence. Our developmental philosophy is firmly anchored in the twin, indissoluble pillars of Self-Reliance and Social Justice. Self-reliance, to the Eritrean spirit, signifies the emancipation of the mind from any culture of subservience or dependency. Social Justice, for its part, is the ultimate telos of this self-reliant path. It is the rejection of a model that concentrates wealth in urban centres while neglecting the periphery. Condolences: Veteran freedom fighter and Governor of Zoba Maekel, Btsai Fissehaie Haile (Afro), has passed away at the age of 78 due to illness.

Btsai Fissehaie joined the EPLF in July 1973 after serving as a member of the agitational/clandestine "Tihisha" group for a year from 1972 until 1973.

During the subsequent two decades of national liberation struggle, he served his nation and people with utmost dedication in various capacities including as a combatant in the EPLA; the EPLF Department of People's Administration; and in the Department of Intelligence and Security.

After independence, Btsai Fissehaie continued to render outstanding service to his people and nation as Deputy Governor of Asmara; Executive Director in the Northern Red Sea Region; Director General of the Department of Customs in the Ministry of Finance; Director-General of the Department of Civil Aviation; as well as Governor of Gash Barka and Central Regions respectively.

Potemkin Party (PP) trolls feign annoyance, get into hysterical commotion, and disparage Eritrea's routine diplomatic activities and/or Presidential visits to some country. And they have the audacity to portray Eritrea as a "lackey and doing the bidding of" some foreign country; these days, the tantrum is on "Eritrea-Egypt" ties!

Need to remind them to swallow these dosage of reality in historical terms. Indeed:
* It is the Ethiopian regime which solicited the diplomatic and political clout of the US to suppress Eritrea's right of decolonization in the 1940s. The overwhelming historical evidence on these machinations have since long been available in the public domain.
*Ethiopian regimes relied on US and Israeli military and technical support in the first decades; and on USSR (and Allies) massive military support in the later decades in their attempts to defeat Eritrea's thirty year war of national liberation. This is yesterday's history fresh in the minds of the contemporary generation (including Gen Z) and that cannot be whimsically erased or wished away.
*Even these days, the Potemkin Party relies heavily on massive international development assistance; opaque ties of dependence on some countries; and IMF bailouts as it pursues belligerent, reckless and unlawful policies against its neighbour under the agenda of "sovereign access to the sea".

Eritrea's policy choices of self-respect and political independence are otherwise well known to merit elaboration.

President Isaias Afwerki and his delegation returned home in the early afternoon hours today winding down a fruitful visit to Egypt.

During the five-day working visit, President Isaias Afwerki held extensive discussions with his Egyptian counterpart, President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi, on consolidation of the ties of friendship and cooperation that exist between the two countries as well as on shared perspectives on regional issues and the security of the Red Sea.

President Isaias also attended the Inauguration Ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum.

In an interview with Egyptian TV (Cairo News) yesterday, President Isaias referred to the historical ties between Eritrea and Egypt which have been bolstered with time, and their closely aligned positions on various regional and international issues. President Isaias Afwerki further underlined the imperative for the countries of the region to work together for the promotion of peace and security and to foil deleterious external interferences.
