Best of luck to Galway's @josephmcginley this evening - in the final match of the Irish Backgammon League.
Both Joe and his opponent Daniel are aiming for promotion to Division 1 (of 9) by winning this evening's match.

Tá táiplis mhór á himirt le fada i nGaillimh. San amhrán "Bainis Pheigí Ní Eághra as Conamara" (a chum Mícheál Mac Suibhne timpeall 1790), áirítear gach rud a theastódh chun bainis gan sárú a eagrú.
Ina measc, luaitear:
"Paca cártaí, bosca táipléis - féach, ná fág na díslí"
In 1791, tháinig consal na Fraince - Charles-Etienne Coquebert de Montbret - ar cuairt go Gaillimh.
Rinne sé cuir síos ar an 'Falmar Mór' - cluiche táiplise a d'imir muintir Chonamara.
The match will be streamed live at 8pm tomorrow, on https://t.co/1m4nmGfx94
The first player to reach a score of 5 points will win the match, and their province will be crowned the Irish Interprovincial Champions.
Best of luck Joe,
Connachta Abú!
Huge congratulations to the Connacht backgammon team, who beat Leinster in the final round of the Interprovincial Championships.
With this victory, Connacht and Munster have finished level in the tournament.
To determine the overall tournament winner, a playoff match will take place between the captains of the two teams - @josephmcginley for Connacht, and Philip Newton (@BackgammonFreak) for Munster.
The playoff is scheduled to take place tomorrow (Tuesday) at 8pm.
Is iad
- Dearbhla Gowen,
- Conor Kelly,
- @josephmcginley,
- Patrick Kenny,
- @AvitalDines,
- Brian Dines (@beegeedee) agus
- Amir Alsaffar
na himreoirí a d'imir ar son Chúige Chonnacht.
Comhghairdeas leo ar fad.
Comhghairdeas mór le foireann táiplis mhór Chúige Chonnacht, tar éis dóibh an ceann is fearr a fháil ar Chúige Laighean, sa bhabhta deireanach de Chraobhchomórtas na gCúigí.
Leis an mbua seo, tá Connachta agus an Mhumhain cothrom sa chéad áit ag deireadh an chomórtais.
Sruthófar an cluiche seo beo ag 8pm amárach, ar https://t.co/1m4nmGfx94
Is é an céad imreoir a schroicheas cúig phointe a bheas an bua aige sa chluiche. De réir sin, bronnfar teideal 'Seaimpíní na hÉireann' ar Chonnachta nó ar an Mumhain.
Go n-éirí go geal le Joe.
Connachta abú!
Last evening saw a nebuchadnezzar of matches taking place, in the 2017 Pyramid finale.
Remaining pyramid matches include:
Adjourned QF: Joe leads Eamonn 6-4 [post crawford]
Winner of JoeVsEamonn will play a SF vs @paddy_ofarrell,
winner of the SF will play Des for the title.
My mistake - the 5-pt league saw a lot of matches played, and the 'top-6' will be contested next Tuesday - it was the BG2 league that didn't see much action this year. Joe
Last but not least, perhaps the most prestigious of all the 2017 contests: The Cup!
Triple-elimination, 11-pt matches.
3 players still in this competition: @josephmcginley, @HY_jess, Des O'Reilly. Des has earned a bye, so Jess is paired against her husband Joseph.
5-point league may be mothballed due to lack of interest. BG2 League also suffered heavily due to emigration of two of the top players there.
Its been a pretty bad year for the club, with average attendance below 4 for the second half of the year.
GP: 12 Monthly knockout tournaments; your best 7 results throughout the series count towards overall ranking, with a top-2 playoff.
A final between Des O'Reilly & Conor Kelly looks most likely, but @josephmcginley is lurking in 3rd place, with some fixtures yet to be completed.
Pyramid: (similar to a ladder tournament, the title-holder gets to wear a fancy egyptian hat until they are deposed).
Our next club night (12 December) will be a pyramid competition night. @josephmcginley holds the hat at present, but it's a difficult one to hold on to.
Beginning to wrap up the various yearlong competitions for 2017.
BG1 League: 8 players, triple Round Robin of 13-pt matches.
@josephmcginley is so far ahead as to be uncatchable, he's deemed the winner (though a lot of fixtures were not completed)
