For those of you who speak German: My significant other writes a wonderful boardgame blog!๐In every review article they make a๐ณ๏ธโ๐rainbow check๐ณ๏ธโ๐regarding the diversity of characters, themes and so on. https://t.co/QX766op1je
@afterthepageant Oh, absolutely! Pronouns for me always includes the possibility of no pronouns at all = just using the name. Sorry, should have stated this clearer. ๐
Boardgame meetups can be super stressful for trans* folks:
- so many new people that don't know you
- pronouns are constantly used in boardgames, especially when there are lots of new names
โก you spend the evening correcting pronouns a 1000 times ๐ฑ
How to help as an ally:
Made custom characters for #FlickemUp by @PretzelGames_ based on historical figures since I can't draw. I love them! ๐
DM me if you want the PDF.
Also, let me know if I should do a tweet about each character's background (they did not all live at the same times/places!)
For anyone hyped about the Claustrophobia KS: Beware that this is by the makers of the Conan boardgame that embraces all the sexism and racism of the 1930s Conan setting. ๐
Buuut there are 2 female warriors and they seem to be dressed. Yay! "Western Warriors", though? Hm. ๐ค
"Problem": My SO and I are huge boardgamegeeks and for xmas we always gift each other games and stay in for 3 days and play them all. But how to avoid doubles? ๐ง
Solution: Alphabet split. This year I'll gift games that start with A-G & U-Z, he gets H-T.

Visual designer: โthis bright yellow on white looks great on my 5k mega display. Booyah! Filled icons are so last season.โ Kid: โI donโt see this and canโt play the game.โ Donโt be an ignorant designer. #accessibility
@paullicino That sounds exciting! Looking forward to hear more about this project. ๐๐ฟ The only cool mum character I can think of right now is Sunny Lebeau in Netrunner: https://t.co/VVDblniVyn
Did you know that this #Netrunner character is trans*? This is diversity how I like it best: Being trans* is just part of this character but neither he nor his mechanics are about this. He isn't onedimensionally reduced to being a minory. He's Nero.

Love Letter automatically creates queer stories since everyone courts the princess regardless of the player's gender.
Theme Tip: Tell each other what your letters are about and why they will definitely win the princess's heart, this time! ๐

@meeplelikeus look at the visual, cognitive, emotional, physical, communicative and socioeconomic accessibility of boardgames: https://t.co/7FIBHZRWIo. I have a colleague with a visual impairment and this site helps us choosing games! ๐๐พ

I wrote to SU&SD about this, as did a lot of other boardgamers. And they added this disclaimer! Super nice and very thoughtful! ๐๐ฟNow I only need to find the courage to write to @Zmangames_ as well...
This morning we attached a disclaimer to our Tales of the Arabian Nights review, noting the game's homophobic and transphobic attitudes.
We *definitely* should have done this sooner. Apologies to our LGBT readers for whom this came as a nasty surprise.
@ShutUpShow My group's wonky house rules:
- Same sex courting: allowed
- Roll a dice for the sexual orientation of a person you seduce. 1-2: gay, 3-4: pan, 5-6: hetero. Read the ยง best fitting the result
- Change text depicting queerness as disgusting on the fly
- Sex-changed: can still win
My favorite 2p-game is also one of the most diverse: Android Netrunner by @FFGames. One example of many: There are bioroids of color, something you almost never see in other sci-fi works.
Glad that @ProjectNISEI continues in this spirit!

By the way, I bet this was not the intention of @wizkidsgames at all! It seems like the art was done by an agency and I know that you have to be extremely specific in your briefings to get diverse art from third providers. This is why it's important to speak about this stuff. ๐๐ฟ
The set collection game Fantasy Realms is a hidden gem... but it also features only women with giant melons for breasts. @wizkidsgames Any chance for changing this in a future print, pretty please? If anyone is wondering why this is problematic, I'll explain below.

So why should we care? If you are a woman and you see art like that ๐๐ in so many boardgames then you would think: "Boardgamers don't care about us as players and persons, they just care about our boobs". And I absolutely don't want to support this message.
