In 1947 when India attained independence, West Bengal’s share in the country's total industrial production was 24%. By 2021, it had declined to 3.5%.
Every time I read these numbers for Bengal, my heart sinks with grief.
Many industry leaders have gone out of the state. The factors driving the industry out is power shortage, poor law & order situation and uncontrolled trade unionism.
Bengal has played such a wonderful role for this country, your thought leaders, industry leaders stood out. Bengal stood out in culture, in music and in knowledge.
Now, tell me one parameter where you stand out. It's 'Tolabazi', unfortunately.
There's no ease of doing business in West Bengal now.
