It’s funny how Indiana senator @ToddYoungIN is one of the highest NRA bought politicians but claims that just because he accepts their money doesn’t mean he approves of their ideas. So does this mean that he would accept money from @PPFA
On the 5th anniversary of Michael Brown’s death, remind yourself that police brutality is gun violence, & that gun violence disproportionately targets Black Americans.
Black lives matter. We can’t end gun violence unless intersectionality is a constant theme, not a side-note.
Last night
20 people died in El Paso, TX
9 people died in Dayton, OH
33 were shot in Chicago, IL
Congress and the Senate are on vacation while our nation bleeds out—
They need to have an #EmergencySession on gun violence prevention right now.
There was a mass shooting in El Paso, Texas.
Then, there was a mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio.
They were only a few hours apart.
How many more lives have to be destroyed before our legislators stand with us. How many more people have to be slaughtered for our lawmakers to act.
The El Paso gunman drove NINE HOURS to the Texas border to kill brown people.
White supremacy is not a mental illness. It’s an ideology encouraged by the President and too many of our nation’s leaders, and it’s made deadly in America via easy access to arsenals and ammunition.
To my colleagues - get off your ass and do something.
Stop pretending like your only responsibility is to offer sympathy.
You got elected to fix things. And this is fixable. But not if all you do about this is tweet.
It has just now been confirmed that we have lost 20 beautiful lives due to gun violence today in El Paso, TX.
We are with all of those who have lost loved ones or have been affected by this tragedy, and continue to commit to action, solidarity, and love in the face of such evil.
These numbers are too high. We shouldn’t have to ask our representatives and senators to let us live in a country where going to school, the movie theatres, the mall, LITERALLY ANYWHERE without the fear of being killed by weapons that shouldn’t be so easily accessible.
219,100. That’s how many people die every 6 years. That how many people who could still be alive today that if the Senate would allow gun safety laws to be passed.
