So let's actually do the math on this "supress salary" argument
The current payroll of all teams combined is 5,430M
The proposed cap and floor is $160M - $240M
Assuming everyone above lowers to 240 and all below raise to 160, the total would become 5,700M!! Almost 300M more in payout, even including the current hyper inflated Dodgers total coming down 150+!
So who's suppressing whose salary, Chris Bassitt and "executive subcommittee"? The top 5% of PLAYERS are suppressing salary for the other 95%!
And for what?! For a small elite's super privilege. That's the ACTUAL purpose of a union, to AVOID that. The fans want it, the owners want it, most players want it (remember executive subcommittee voted 0-8 against last CBA, while the players rep group voted 20-8), but the super douche subcommittee wants to gaslight us into being the victim
MLBPA subcommittee member Chris Bassitt on the salary cap debate that may be a central figure in the upcoming CBA discussions: "The salary cap is not the issue. Having suppressed salaries across the league so owners can make more money is not the answer."
@timdierkes@Nomadhidinghere Tim, you got absolutely destroyed in this argument as proof by resorting to insults. I proved it with math, this guy proves it legally and you got nothing but "nah nah boo boo". How much the executive sub committee paying you?
Could the Pirates behavior also be a reaction to a decades-long trend? In the same vein of being seen, it's long been a race to the bottom, who can crap on the org hardest. Is that journalist integrity?
Are they not just just being smart, having recognized the trend and doing all they can to combat it? Make no mistake, the media race to the bottom put this organization in this position long before Bob. Perhaps that's partially why only a media empire king would buy it off McClatchy in the first place
Mayyybe this is a bed you made yourself, DK and the rest of the Pittsburgh media?
Can't assume you can slander someone for decades and get any type of preferential treatment
The cash cow of shit on the Bucs is on its way out but not without the vampires kicking and screaming!
Man, be grateful you've still got two major-league teams in town who know how to carry themselves professionally. We have decisions to make, in turn. We're not about to participate in a game that's rigged. Never seen something like this in 25-plus years. 3/3 @MLB@MLB_PR
Finally, the team's getting creative to avoid the constant smear campaigns
You think maybe, Noah, this is in response to 30 years of abuse by the local media? But no, sure, point fingers right at them as per usual
Zero disrespect to Jason, but it’s absolute nonsense the team went out of its way to control the narrative here. Carmen was set to speak with reporters tomorrow. The team ensured he spoke with their own writer before hand. That’s wrong. Full stop. Period.
Absolutely he was disappointed about the move, but this was largely much to do about nothing
Also out of these 2, who you starting? 51% hard hit rate and a .285 xBA is a disaster waiting to happen
And no way am I bringing Walks McGee in with anyone on base
Carmen Mlodzinski is off the restricted list and ready to embrace his new role. Talked to the Pirates pitcher today about everything: https://t.co/EtW2k4LCIO
@TortsIllustrtd@MLBPA Benefits also get split, coming out of salaries too. So it's not ignoring it. The only thing being ignored is logic, logically the cap/floor puts way more money in players pockets. Every other league proves this out too, the raise in pay is exponential
The BASE proposal would put $40M dollars into players pockets
Could easily double that in negotiations AND get your super 2 and club control asks
But sure, the @MLBPA is looking out for all their members 🙄
@TortsIllustrtd@MLBPA Do the math on this chart
If they wanted more money for all negotiating the cap is clearly the best path. But they don't want that. Some pennies for the pee ons so the agents and top 5% can gouge the league
@TortsIllustrtd@MLBPA Based on a singular dudes independent research. Some figures show it would be 100Ms in gain. And again, that's the BASE proposal. Can easily make it a significant boon for players in totality. But the mlbpa would rather go to bat for ONLY the top 5% of players and their agents
@KickinitwitKeef MLB fans defending agents for only protecting the top 5% of players instead of putting significantly more money in players pockets in totality
Do the math
@threeinningfan You would advise the players to give up significantly more money in totality? 🤔
Have you done the math? Their argument holds no weight if you do the math
@dodgersrpeit@MLBPA Cool retort you're doing great👍
Can you do math?? This is for the players, not the owners. I want more money in the players pockets. This does that
Now, who's the sheep for not thinking it through for themselves again?
The agent mouth pieces in full force
Why don't they touch on the fact that the BASELINE proposed cap puts significantly more money in players pockets in totality? Somehow that's bad for all players?
The @MLBPA is a joke only serving agents and the top 5% of who they represent
The MLBPA's response, in part, to today's proposal: "The owners responded today with a demand for a salary cap system, something generations of players have fought against. The last time the owners made such an explicit push for a cap—over 30 years ago—it led to the longest work stoppage in MLB history. For generations, our members have fought against cap systems because they harm players at all levels, erode or eliminate contractual guarantees, pit player against player, lead to more work stoppages, not less, and get worse for players over time. Caps don’t lower ticket prices for fans, eliminate tanking or ensure teams are run with equal competence. They suffocate competition by offering owners an all-purpose excuse for inaction and mediocrity."
We have actual numbers now
245 cap and 171 floor (seems my estimates were pretty spot on, conservatively)
And that's the owners FIRST offer
Again, the cap/floor system is PRO players! Don't let the agent mouth pieces and big market easy button hoarders tell you any different

The beauty of a deep lineup
2 significant lineup pieces slumping hard (Ozuna, Horwitz) and still have produced ~ 5 runs/gm
Then others will slump and those 2 will pick up the lineup. A luxury almost unheard of for the Pirates!
Ozuna will get red hot at some point, bet on that
@Smooth_Runnings May get to see Valdez at some point this year. He's also one of the younger guys in AAA at 22. OPS over 1.000 over his 1st 50+ AAA ABs
Another ho hum day for Seth Hernandez! He now has the following statline in Low A
12 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 1 ER, 23 Ks
Fastball is sitting 99-100 and it's not even his best pitch!
The Pirates have the best two 19 year old baseball players on the planet in the org
@ThaMoreYaKnow@TheWARmonger_ Mostly based on a standard and a lot of assumptions. Positioning is considered but spin of the ball and wind direction can never be accurately measured. Just gotta know what you're looking at!
@TheWARmonger_ Absolutely false. Dude did you ever even step foot on a field? He got a good jump, high sprint speed and a good route. You can wipe your ass with those defensive metrics, you gotta know what you're looking at
