we need some Black joy today so I’m re-sharing this video of my students in @POCatBCCS who turned a walkout protest into a celebration of joy and Blackness.

(2/2) has done the past year and a half to change the culture of our community based off our demands.

The hope is that we will release statements from each student in our group's commitment to equity in education as well as announcing college commitments.

(1/2) We have been inactive this past year, and on behalf of us all, we apologize.

Majority of the students who had lead the movement on Nov. 1st, 2019 are now seniors that are going to be graduating on June 10th. Soon, we will release updates on what BCCS

last fall, I considered starting a meditation class for my kids because so many of them were having panic attacks or suffering from depression due to the school’s structures.

instead, I opted to support them as they worked to organize direct action as an act of self-care.

if you are a teacher unsure of how to speak up or be an ally for Black and Brown kids, perhaps you should start by listening to the kids?

There was an email sent out last night by school admin to the highschool students. This was the email.

As a group, we made it clear that this was a dress down day WE organized.

The second email was our response. #BLM #BlackHistory2020 #POCatBCCS

i left the space feeling so seen, affirmed, and full of hope for our students and community.

I lost count of how many middle and high schoolers filled the parking lot of our school for the @POCatBCCS walkout.

All I know is that th led to a joyful and love-filled party with dancing and brown and black kids singing “Brown Skinned Girl.”

We have been in this fight for more years, when will it end?

We are ready for a community change, who is going to provide it?

There were a ton of highs and lows today, but one of the highs was when @OompOutLoud happened to be driving by while our girls were singing “Brown Skin Girls” and they serenaded each other and then took this picture when she stopped by to show her support to #POCatBCCS. ♥️
