I formally assumed office yesterday as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, following a handover from my predecessor, Mr. Wale Edun. I sincerely appreciate him for his service to our country and the foundation he has laid.
Nigeria is at a critical juncture. Having taken important steps to stabilise the economy, our immediate task is to consolidate these gains, deepen ongoing reforms, and ensure they translate into tangible benefits for all Nigerians.
Our strategic priorities include:
๐๐ซ๐จ๐๐ฎ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ & ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ก - creating a predictable and investor-friendly environment anchored on policy coherence, consistency, and clarity.
๐ ๐ข๐ฌ๐๐๐ฅ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐๐ข๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ & ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ - ensuring transparent and prudent management of public resources.
๐๐๐ฏ๐๐ง๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ฉ๐ญ๐ข๐ฆ๐ข๐ฌ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง & ๐ ๐๐ข๐ซ ๐๐๐ฑ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง - harmonising revenue administration, broadening the tax base, reducing the burden on vulnerable population, and supporting economic growth.
๐๐ญ๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐๐ซ ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ง๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐จ๐จ๐ซ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง - aligning efforts across all tiers and institutions to maximise policy impact.
๐๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐๐ฒ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฏ๐๐ญ๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ง๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ (๐๐๐๐) - deepening collaboration with the private sector and other key stakeholders for data-driven policy design, co-implementation, and feedback for continuous improvement.
Good policy design alone is not enough, success will be defined by execution. We are committed to disciplined implementation, accountability, and measurable results.
I look forward to working with colleagues across government, the private sector, and all Nigerians as we move from reform to result, accelerate growth and build a more stable, inclusive, and prosperous economy.
I often joke that I have only ever had one job. What I rarely mention is that, in my early thirties, I was building two businesses simultaneously. Not long after the Unipetrol acquisition, a small group of us saw the opportunity to apply for a GSM license. From 8:00am to 8:00pm, I focused on growing the energy business.
The nights, starting from 8:00pm, belonged to telecoms. Seven of us worked until 2:00am daily, refining the bid, aligning partners, and preparing for an outcome that was far from guaranteed.
We won that license, launched, and later exited. Today, that telecom company is known as Airtel.
What's the lesson? Youth is an execution advantage. At that stage of life, sustaining 18-hour workdays repeatedly was possible. Not only because of motivation, but because of capacity.
There is a surplus of energy and tolerance for uncertainty at that stage. Over time, that edge diminishes.
If you are early in your career, this is the period to use that advantage. Take the risk. Endeavour.

Itโs been two years since we lost Herbert Wigwe, his beloved wife Chizoba, and their son Chizi. The void left by his premature departure is still felt deeply. Herbert was a โGood Manโ, friend, leader, family man, and a dreamer whose vision helped shape @myaccessbank.
Though time moves on, his impact remains, and his memory continues to guide us. May their souls rest in perfect peace.
Till we meet again, Herbie.

There are two types of business owners. Those who started a business for profits and those who started a business for impact. @AlikoDangote is in the later category. I want to be like Alhaji @AlikoDangote
When you don't understand, lean in more. When it challenges your intelligence, lean in more. When it makes you feel stupid, lean in more. Leaning out will leave you behind.
