It might feel early, but some baby turtles are already beginning their journey
These tiny hatchlings make their way to water on their own, often crossing trails and roads along the way.
If you spot one, keep your distance and let it do its thing.
I’m a plumber. I was called to a house last week—a tiny, crumbling place owned by an elderly woman named Rose. Her main line was backed up. It was a $1,200 job.
When I finished, I saw her checkbook on the table. Her balance was $1,205.
She looked at me, her hands shaking as she picked up the pen. "Who do I make it out to?"
I looked at her cat, who was missing an eye. I looked at her coat, which was pinned together with a safety pin.
"Actually, Rose," I said, "I have some bad news. I accidentally used the 'refurbished' parts from a previous job. Company policy says if I use used parts, the job is free because I can't guarantee it for ten years. In fact, I have to pay you a $50 'inconvenience fee' for the mistake."
I handed her a fifty-dollar bill.
She gasped. "But the water is working perfectly!"
"For now," I lied. "But since I messed up the paperwork, it's on the house."
I walked out $1,200 poorer in my pocket, but I felt like a millionaire. Sometimes, the best way to fix a leak is to fill someone’s heart instead.

I’m a librarian. We have rules. Strict ones. A little girl, maybe 9, came to my desk trembling. She pushed a copy of Harry Potter across the counter. It was ruined. Soaked. Muddy. "I... I dropped it in a puddle," she whispered. "I don't have the money to replace it." She was terrified. I looked at her file. She checked out three books a week. Never late. I looked at the book.
Then I looked at her cheap, worn-out sneakers. I scanned the book. beep. "What book?" I asked. She looked confused. "The one... right there." I slid the ruined book into the trash can behind me. "I don't see a book. Our system says you returned it yesterday. Must have been a glitch." I grabbed a brand new copy from the shelf and handed it to her. "This one is checked out to you now.
Try to keep it dry, okay?" She didn't say a word. She just grabbed my hand, squeezed it hard, and ran off. I paid for the lost book out of my paycheck. Best $15 I ever spent.

104 years ago, Agnes Macphail became the first woman elected to Canada’s Parliament. Today, there are 104 women serving in our House of Commons.
That progress was fought for and won by brave women who were determined that our democracy should reflect the country it serves — and we are determined to build on that work.
