Of course they wouldn't use such informally chosen names on formal documents unless instructed by parents.

That was 50 odd years ago!! Ask an atmospheric scientist. They'll explain it to you. Or maybe a school kid?

He wasn't exactly 'rags' to riches - more 'comfortably-well-off' to riches. But still, that's quite an achievement.
