There was far too much Lee Atwater action and too much irresponsible dark money in the Columbia mayoral race for my taste. Many politicians think it is our problem if we aren’t cynical enough to go along with all this. Voters should make it their problem.
If we can’t come together to even begin DEBATE on a bill that would defend Americans’ most fundamental right to vote, it’s clear we need to restore the Senate to a body that actually works for the people.
Here’s the deal: If you spent $3 on your coffee this morning, that’s more than what 55 major corporations paid in taxes in recent years.
It’s wrong — and it’s got to change.
Roberts and SCOTUS have taken the position that racism no longer threatens the right to vote (Shelby) and today that everything was peachy in 1982 and voting rights are frozen in place from that time. I grew up in the Jim Crow South and know how slowly it has changed. I call BS.
Today the federal constitutional convention is on the SC House calendar. It is an attempt by wealthy special interests to weaken the federal government so they can pursue unfettered self-interest without any limitation by the federal government. It is a very big con, the con con.
As an archaeologist I’ve looked at societies over long time spans. Things I’ve noticed — apocalyptic cults never end well and people underestimate the risk that extreme disruption will not just reform but destroy fundamental institutions that they rely on. https://t.co/QrhQeAp8gn
Excellent news in House Elections Law subcommittee that Cobb-Hunter’s H3822, an excellent absentee voting bill, will continue testimony at a later date.
This is no accident. Subsidies and special tax breaks for corporations and the wealthy, personal responsibility for the low income workers who desperately need Medicaid Expansion.
Praying for those triggered, re-living trauma as #ChauvinTrial continues. I'm struck by how many tried to intervene; people who were themselves so vulnerable to racism and police violence. I'm sad to see how much they suffer; they now have survivors guilt. I wish them peace.
She is right, although in SC protection of incumbents is a bigger factor than parties. The US is the only country where legislators draw their own districts and almost all fall prey to the temptation to make life easier for themselves, at the expense of a meaningful vote for us.
Once more with feeling. State law already gives the SEC authority to ensure counties adhere to a single interpretation of election law. I testified for the bill in 2014. It passed. 2020 differences were a communication problem, not lack of SEC authority. https://t.co/BJYcN2XDhY
And it's not the Baylor Women's fault, but there's little I find more odious than a team named the "lady bears." The only way we're doing that is if we're also calling Baylor's men's basketball team the "man bears" or the "guy bears." #NCAA
Medicaid expansion covers the working poor (mostly NOT teens with part time jobs). I would much rather see wage levels that allow insurance purchase, but the people who oppose expansion also often oppose a decent minimum wage. No way out for poor workers.
A new, real-world Israeli study shows the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is almost 90% effective at stopping COVID-19 transmission (not just symptoms) https://t.co/DND4pzz2ga
