My Fiancé has already paid the vendor fees to attend and setup shop at the con. And now, they choose to move the date VERY last minute. It's not like people aren't already there at the convention or have other commitments on Thanksgiving weekend already made. This is just robbery

This morning we woke up to Jacksonville, Florida being spared from much of the devastation that impacted our state as a result of Hurricane Milton. However, many fellow Floridians are still reeling from the impact. WasabiCon has always been more than “another anime convention”. We’ve been a community that welcomes fellow fans into a safe space together in our favorite city in the Sunshine State. If we moved forward with the convention this weekend, it would exclude many of those fans who are no longer in a position to join us for our annual gathering. This morning we met with the team at Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center and decided, together, that we want to make sure we have the opportunity to welcome EVERYONE. Thus, WasabiCon will be moving to the weekend of November 22-24, 2024. We feel this will give everyone ample time to stabilize after this past week and (for some of you) time to work on that cosplay you’ve been finishing at the last minute. We know that this might not be the news that many of you want to hear, but know that we’re already working to make the transition to the new dates as smooth as possible. All exhibitors and ticket holders will be given the opportunity to transfer to the new dates, or to transfer to WasabiCon 2025. For now, we ask for patience as the team works to shift gears into the new dates AND we’re working on an impromptu “something” for this weekend - so stay tuned. Once more, THANK YOU for sticking with us, and we look forward to seeing you all again next month.

@WasabiCon It's understandable that the storm hit us hard, this could have been announced days ago. Many people traveled hours and can't get hotels refunded. This will leave a stain on this convention's reputation for poor time management, including the poor choice of Thanksgiving weekend.
