We need your input!

The BLM is conducting initial scoping for an environmental review to analyze humane, science‑based tools for managing wild horse and burro herds on public lands. Today, herd sizes are more than three times above what the range can sustainably support, and your feedback can help shape solutions that protect both healthy animals and healthy rangelands.

The assessment will analyze and compare a range of management alternatives to reduce overpopulation and slow growth, including gather and fertility control methods, to improve how the BLM manages and protects herd and land health. The assessment won’t authorize new actions, but it will streamline future reviews and strengthen outcomes for wild horses, wildlife, and public lands.

A wild burro in northwestern Arizona was found trapped overnight in a septic tank, struggling to keep its head above the water.

Thanks to quick action from Bureau of Land Management specialists, RV park staff, and caring neighbors, the burro was safely lifted out, cleaned up, fed, and released back to public lands later that day.

Stories like this remind us what can happen when communities come together. A huge thanks to everyone who helped! 👏

@BLM_ES will be at the NE AL Agri-Business Center May 28-30 for your next opportunity to give a good home to a wild horse or burro. Adoption fees start $125 for qualified applicants.

The event will be open May 28-29 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and May 30 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. BLM staff will be onsite to provide more information and assist with the application process.

Freedom and Liberty bid farewell to Virginia as they continue their cross‑country journey west.

During their visit, Freedom and Liberty met with local students, greeted visitors at the Frying Pan Farm Park Spring Days, and cheered on participants at the Mustang Run 5K in Lorton.
