Post-quantum signatures aren't new, they've existed for about 45 years.
@adam3us on why OP_CHECKSHRINCS proposed by @blksresearch is designed as a minimal, provable change to Bitcoin, and why starting the migration now means more real-world data before it's actually needed.
None of it works without solid cryptography.
@blksresearch are key contributors and maintainers of libsecp256k1, behind every Bitcoin signature, and libsecp256k1-zkp, powering Confidential Transactions on Liquid.
Let us proceed together apace. Onward.

Quantum is the @BTCconsortium's first focus, and @blksresearch has spent the last year working toward a quantum-safe Bitcoin.
Check out the thread below to learn about some of our initiatives, starting with OP_CHECKSHRINCS. 🧵
How worried should Bitcoin holders be? Today's best quantum hardware can barely factor 21.
Taproot already has a quantum-safe path built in via its script tree. @blksresearch ran the first post-quantum tx on @Liquid_BTC in March 2026.

New zero-confirmation (0-conf) infra is now available, giving enterprises near-instant, privacy-preserving acceptance flows on Liquid.
It’s part of Liquid’s 2026 roadmap, alongside a quantum-ready testnet and BitVM whitepaper by year-end.

Today, the best quantum hardware can just about factor 21 (3 x 7).
@blksresearch hired @kudinov_mikhail, one of the cryptographers behind NIST's post-quantum signature standard, and we have already proposed OP_CHECKSHRINCS, an optimized hash-based signature opcode for Bitcoin.
Proud to be a founding member of the @BTCconsortium.
Bitcoin’s long-term security has always been core to what we do, from open-source research to practical post-quantum work like OP_CHECKSHRINCS.
Supporting the independent developer community that keeps the network resilient is a natural extension of that mission.
We're the Bitcoin Security Consortium: leading financial institutions and Bitcoin companies supporting Bitcoin's long-term security.
Members have pledged $15 million to Bitcoin security research and development over the next three years.
New 0-conf infrastructure for Liquid and other @BlksElements -based deployments is here.
Swap services, exchanges and other applications that accept Liquid payments now have access to near-instant transfer times.

Reusing a bitcoin address links your transactions and weakens your privacy.
The Blockstream app gives you a fresh receive address every time, and your funds stay in self-custody from the moment you buy.
We're excited to see Clams v1 from a team that's been building alongside us for a while, now shipping!
The new interface integrates with Core Lightning, so Lightning node operators get audit-ready, self-hosted books with their data on their own machine.
Taking bitcoin off an exchange into hardware-secured self-custody is now easier, faster, and still as secure as ever.
Jade Core walks a first-time owner from exchange balance to their own keys. $99, free worldwide shipping, fully open-source.

OP_CHECKSHRINCS uses one public key with two ways to spend.
The first path keeps signatures small by having the device track how many times it has signed.
The second path doesn't track anything and is always available as a safety net. If your device is lost or replaced, you restore with your recovery phrase and fall back to that second path.
It's more expensive to spend from, but you are never locked out. This is how SHRINCS works.
