🔵🧐 After enough review on the weekends.
This is what I’d like Alonso to do next to sort out our defence:
Play players in their actual positions.
Don’t put unnecessary pressure on Estevao, he’s good enough to start.
Quenda is also there and has barely had any minutes this season.
We can’t keep forcing square pegs into round holes and then act surprised when the structure collapses.
A few more things that would help:
• Pick a settled back line and stick with it for 4-5 games
• Stop changing shape every match
• More aggressive midfield protection when we have the lead
• Clear roles for the wing-backs instead of leaving them isolated
• Quicker decision-making on who is actually a centre-back and who isn’t
Attack is flying. Defence is still soft. Fix the basics and this team becomes dangerous.
What do you think Alonso needs to prioritise first?

Never felt more gutted about a signing that didn’t happen than yesterday.
Wish we had got Granit Xhaka when Alonso wanted him earlier in the window.
That’s exactly the type of player this squad and dressing room is missing right now.
Watched Sunderland vs Arsenal and it just confirmed it.

Lavia needs a solid partner alongside him. With him and Reece in midfield, neither seems to know who should push forward and who should stay back. Reece’s strengths are far from being maximised in midfield. Hopefully, everyone sees it soon. #CFC
🔵🟠HT: Chelsea 1-2 Hull
Scored first, then gifted two soft goals from basic errors.
4 at the back isn’t working. Stick to the 3-4-2-1.
Hato, Gusto and Martinez all struggling. Need more control and better organisation second half.#CFC
Other Notes
• On finding balance in the team: Focus is on becoming more solid defensively while keeping the attacking quality.
• On Pedro Neto: Praised his versatility (can play as winger or wing-back), work-rate and one-v-one ability.
• On Palmer & Rogers: Spoke positively about their connection and chemistry on the pitch. #CFC
🔵👨💼Xabi Alonso’s press conference ahead of Chelsea vs Hull City:
Key Injury Updates
• Moises Caicedo: Still not ready.
“Not yet. We’ll see for Brentford. We’re not at a moment to take risks with him. Not yet, not yet.”
• Marco Palestra, Jordan Henderson & Emmanuel Emegha: All out
“Not tomorrow. We hope they can be for Brentford, but we’ll see.”
On Hull City
• Alonso was respectful of their strong start (unbeaten and yet to concede in the league):
“They deserve to be where they are. They have played against United, Coventry and Villa, and they’ve done it really well. They’ve built a clear idea of what they want, how they want to compete. The mentality, they want to fight with everything.”

🚨🔵 Joao Pedro has won the EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month award for August 2026.
• It’s his first time winning the award
• First Chelsea player to win it since Cole Palmer (September 2024) #CFC
🔵 FT Chelsea 6-3 Leeds ⚪️
Here is my full thoughts and analysis of the game.
First half was embarrassing. Second half was a different team.
Palmer two goals. Rogers three assists.
Barco goal and assist. Neto huge.
James came on and settled midfield. Welbeck two goals.
3-4-2-1 only works if the two in midfield can play. Tonight Barco + James late did more than Barco + Watson + Gusto early.
Gusto in there first half wasn’t it.
Need Caicedo back. Still short of a proper 6 though. Kamara would have helped. Doesn’t change that this comeback was proper Chelsea 🔥 🔥
Love this team 💙👊🏽.
Thoughts Chels? #CFC
Embarrassing first half that.
Horrible from almost everyone on the pitch.
No intensity, no control.
Gusto is not a midfielder. Take him out of there.
Need first-team players on for the second half.
Thoughts Chels?
