🇯🇴 The Folded Fingers
A remnant of a statue that is believed to have stood over 40 feet tall, discovered within the Temple of Hercules in Amman, Jordan, dating back to approximately 160 AD.
The Temple of Hercules, located within the Amman Citadel at the heart of Jordan's capital, is a historic monument of great significance. Today, the surviving fragments of this structure are recognized as one of Amman's most iconic landmarks, representing the city's rich cultural and historical heritage.
Illustrations featured on the covers and pages of a cultural magazine from the 1940s or 1950s, highlighting the traditional attire and clothing heritage of Jordanian women. The designs are elegantly framed by archaeological landmarks, reflecting the local environment and cultural roots of the women portrayed. 🇯🇴
🇯🇴 The Roman Theatre in Amman, Jordan, built into a hillside during the reign of Emperor Antoninus Pius between 138 and 161 CE, is a steeply raked amphitheatre that could seat around 6,000 spectators.
A Greek inscription records that it was dedicated in honour of the emperor, and together with the adjacent Hashemite Plaza it forms one of the city’s most impressive and well-preserved examples of Roman architecture.
