#mschat thanks for the chat

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

#mschat @autismspeaks has a bunch of good info & resources

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

#mschat A4: that depends on the definition of equity resource... there are many and each depend on the end user I would think...

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

#mschat I follow Dave Burgess tlap (Teach like a Pirate.) He has good ideas about connecting with students

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

#mschat A1 it really depends on the student... but usually a friendly word and ear makes a good start

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

#mschat Howdy, I am Ryan, I teach children with autism grades 6-8 in Parkersburg WV

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

#Edchat Thanks for the chat

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

@sgthomas1973 @MadisonWolf31 @how2tonicteach yes, teach the "whole" child

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

#Edchat As attractive as virtual school appears, it is no panacea ... and if the student isn't motivated, what good is it?

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

#Edchat In our part of WV we usually have 2 weeks of snow days per year... I think they want virtual ed. constantly... (to make up for missed days...) but what about technical classes? virtual auto mechanics doesn't quite do it...

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

@tomwhitby exactly

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

#Edchat With all the virtual learning going on anyway, an additional day of virtual learning in lieu of a snow day may keep the academic calendar intact... but virtual learning isn't getting it done for all students...

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

#Edchat eliminating snow days where it doesn't snow is fine... one bus load of kids skidding through the snow is one too many

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

“When the student is ready the teacher will appear. When the student is truly ready... The teacher will Disappear.” -Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

@JeremyDBond it really depends on the student. I have students that really need to learn how to dress themselves or be potty trained...

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

#NT2t A2: it is important to teach about democracy in social studies- however, not every population of students is capable of understanding this topic

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

#NT2t Thank you all for a wonderful chat

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

@JeremyDBond Queequeg has my support!

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

#NT2t A5: be sure the students understand that "all politics is local" and they need to be aware of their community when they can...

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

#NT2t A4: you "elect" or choose what to eat at lunch... choosing which "elect"ive to take might be another easy analogy ...

[Ryan Sleight @BMSAutism]

@crowley_mrs2 Yes it is a great challenge, but that's the thrill of teaching isn't it?
