Fair play to Maresca. I’ve definitely been critical of him but that was an impressive tournament. More passing forward and utilising pace and I can definitely get on board
This Barca team are refreshing to watch. Unapologetic in the way they play on the front foot and unbothered by the robotic need to be defensively stable in the process. Really fun to watch
"They were more afraid to drop out of the tournament than having the excitement and hunger to win it" 👀
Thomas Tuchel reflects on England's Euro2024 campaign 🏴

I’m amazed by the plaudits this ownership gets when acquiring the ‘best young talent’ - yeah it’s great but are missing the point where we’re struggling to develop and realise that potential with most of the squad already? Think that will change under someone like Maresca?
Does anyone find this era of football just a bit dull to watch? Everyone plays so similar that they cancel each other out. Feels like the game needs renaissance from this possession-based dominance.
I like the Tuchel appointment. He was a fan favourite at Chelsea. Sometimes ugly football but he made a *bad* squad shine gold. I’m excited to see what he does and how he does it. I think it’s the right move. Would I love an Englishman to lead us to a World Cup? Of course.
My problem with the ‘England Job should be an Englishman’ is that we scream about boldness and building a stronger mentality when it comes to tournaments and why don’t we have those things? The issue England has had for years is the lack of high quality coaches.
Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney etc etc. don’t get jobs because they’re good coaches - they got them because of their reputation as a player - which, I think, is more harmful to our English coaches than Tuchel being appointed.
Boehly vs Clearlake, what I can understand from reading the sourced reports so far :
Boehly:
- Wants a CEO of Football then a sporting director
- Wants them to make the decisions
- Wants stability with coaches
- Thinks plans for Stamford Bridge rebuild or new stadium should be faster
- Does not think owners should be hands on day to day
- Agrees with the data, multi club model and youth led approach but would make more exceptions for older and proven players
Egbhali / Clearlake :
- Prefer two sporting directors
- Want the directors to feed up to him / them
- Must be involved in all football decisions
- Can be more ruthless on managers
- Heavily data and youth led
