We are concerned by reports of disorder this evening, with far right groups expressing open anti-Muslim hostility. Violence and hatred have no place in society.
Periods of heightened tension can often lead to a rise in anti-Muslim hate online and offline - against Muslim communities, individuals and those perceived to be Muslim.
We encourage anyone who experiences or witnesses anti-Muslim hostility to report it: https://t.co/4Z72NgrgOk

The awful murders at an Islamic centre in San Diego is shocking but not surprising.
Hatred towards Muslims has been normalised and often goes unchallenged.
We can then hardly be surprised when hateful rhetoric turns deadly.
We need our allies to speak up & stand alongside us.
We are deeply saddened and devastated by the news of a shooting at a mosque in San Diego, which has left three people dead.
This is an attack on a place of worship, on a community gathered to pray. Mosques should be places of safety and sanctuary. This attack is a stark reminder of the real and deadly threat of anti-Muslim hatred.
Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and loved ones, and Muslim communities in San Diego and across the US.
Statement from the British Muslim Trust | 16 May 2026
This weekend, thousands of people marched through London in a demonstration that was not a protest against a policy or a government but rather an open targeting and dehumanisation of Muslims and minority communities across Britain. A stark reminder of the hostility many people of colour face in this country.
At the march, we witnessed bacon stunts designed to humiliate. Convicted criminal, Tommy Robinson, aka Stephen Yaxley Lenon, called for 'remigration of Muslims'. And in one of the deeply disturbing moments, a stunt staged by members of French far-right group, 'Collectif Nemesis' - to cheers of the crowd - saw them remove the niqab and dress of Muslim women, in a display of outright anti-Muslim hostility.
What was platformed was the distressing targeting and call for the curtailing of Muslim women's freedom to choose what they wear. This un-British act caused widespread fear amongst Muslim women across the country. So great was that fear that many Muslims chose to stay away from London entirely - including from the FA Cup Final - and that chilling effect on Muslim participation in public life is deeply detrimental to a healthy and thriving society.
This did not happen in a vacuum. Anti-Muslim hostility and hate crimes continue to rise. Mosques are regularly being attacked. Muslim women are withdrawing from public life due to fear of hostility.
Our helpline was open this weekend, and we heard directly from people who were shaken by what they witnessed and how they were targeted. BMT stands with every Muslim woman, man, and family who woke up on Sunday feeling shocked at the country they call home. We are here to support all victims of anti-Muslim hate and we will continue to document, challenge, and speak out against anti-Muslim hate in all its forms.
BMT continues to liaise with the police and government to raise concerns from victims and communities, and to work collaboratively to keep people safe. We thank them for the measures taken this weekend and urge them to remain robust in responding to all incidents of anti-Muslim hate.
If you have experienced abuse or hostility, please report it to our helpline: 0808 172 3524 or visit https://t.co/jYgRRhBKIi

Seven speakers have been banned from attending the so called Unite The Kingdom march, happening on 16 May 2026 and organised by convicted criminal Tommy Robinson (not his real name).
Many of Tommy’s supporters are upset by the Home Office’s decision, to stop these far right personalities from entering the UK. Some including Rupert Lowe MP, are claiming this is wrong and that people attending the march should hear these - what he calls - lawful views, although he won’t be at the march.
And let’s not forget, last September many Muslim women and young people,
in London and around the country stayed at home out of fear of being attacked.
Really valuable to join yesterday’s conference with @gmvictims@greatermcr and hear so many powerful contributions.
Thank you for inviting the British Muslim Trust @BMuslimTrust to share and be part of the discussion around support, justice and community resilience.
Today the march led by convicted criminal Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (Tommy Robinson) is taking place in London. London’s vibrant & diverse communities are working & living in areas this march will walk through. Many Muslims & minorities are feeling frightened by this. @BMuslimTrust are here to help anyone that suffers an anti-Muslim hate crime.

My Muslim brothers and sisters have always been some of the first people to reach out in support when I’ve faced antisemitism.
Rising antisemitism is terrifying, as is Islamophobia. We must fight against and eradicate all hatred wherever it is found.
We stand together.
