@Humbertotexas10 @WorkElizab If everyone, as in the whole population, were to just stay at home and not go out to dine, it wouldn’t be long before restaurant owners were forced to pay their staff an honest wage.

I realise that waiting staff would suffer in the short term but it would be worth it.

@ClownWorld I’m a Brit so I’m confused. If it’s not a tip or gratuity, what is the service charge for? An extra way to line the owner’s pockets?

In the UK I always refuse to pay a service charge and give tips, if deserved, directly to my server.
