actual facts from a Battle of Fort Oswego survivor

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

I can say I'm very grateful to be alive and I just wanted to share my experience in the battle with everyone that would want to know.

Though he did say " it would cost the king eight or ten thousand lives in presents" then he ordered to destruct supplies they didn't use.

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

Anyway. General Montcalm was shocked when he heard about their behavior and prevented further killings.

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

I am a very peaceful person so to go to war was very hard on me and I don't see the reason to fight over dumb reasons.

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

To think that people can't have control over themselves around the people that they dislike is crazy. But it's still the same nowadays. 🙁

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

Colonel Littlehales was then seized by a group ,that will not be named, and was beaten because "he was a coward and had behaved ill".

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

It was outrage and I still to this day can't even fathom that it even happened. I was so mad and thinking back I still kinda am🤔

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

When I heard about this incident I was more than mad. I was furious. How could they get away with getting drunk and killing us?!😡😡

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

Aimed the confusion some of us (the British) tried to escape, and we were tomahawked and killed by drunk French or Indians.

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

When the fort was opened (after the battle) to the Canadian militia &Indians, they rushed in the fort, opening barrels of rum & gettng drunk

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

And you wanna know what he did?.... he lifted the white flag!

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

They got there about the same time that Colonel Mercer killed by a French soldier. Then Colonel John Littlehales took his place.

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

These men, who made an unopposed crossing under these difficult conditions, appeared on the edge of the clearing outside Fort Oswego

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

Montcalm ordered Rigaud to lead some men across the river upstream. hearing about this that day made my stomach turn... it still does.

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

Montcalm did scare me. I didn't want the other men to know so they wouldn't mess with me but he truly did scare me. Thankfully we beat them!

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

Eventually they did turn their guns around and the French fire was returned to some effect.

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

The garrison, whose cannon were all pointed away from the river, not knowing that the enemy was going to be aiming there 😬

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

Continuing on what happened on August 14th, when the opened fire was exposed the walls crumbled under the onslaught.

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

I used to think that if I were ever in battle I wouldn't be able to save myself and look at me. I'm still alive.

[B.O.O. Survivor @BOOsurvivor]

Honestly I was terrified to go to war. When I found out that the french had 3,000 men I didn't know how to react. I was in shock.
