Press Release➡️ https://t.co/XbuTmKn8tN
Congratulations to @BOPDirector Bill Marshall on an outstanding first year leading the Bureau of Prisons.
In just 12 months, Director Marshall has transformed the culture at BOP with real results:
• Built a strong leadership team laser-focused on policy, efficiency, and restoring trust with frontline staff
• Launched a First Step Act Task Force to fix credit and placement calculations
• Cracked down hard on corruption and contraband smuggling
• Deployed Special Operations Response Teams to support ICE missions
• Ended the gender ideology extremism of the prior administration
This DOJ will continue working hand-in-hand with Director Marshall to give him the necessary resources as he restores accountability, integrity, and transparency to the Bureau of Prisons.
Thank you @LaraLogan for a great conversation on Going Rogue with Lara Logan. I appreciate the opportunity to discuss the priorities of the Bureau and how a renewed focus on culture, accountability and transparency is strengthening the future of the organization.
FIRST STEP ACTS FIXES
On Episode 71 of Going Rogue with Lara Logan, Bureau of Prisons Director William Marshall explains what his team is doing to fix the long-criticized implementation of the First Step Act.
Marshall tells Lara that when he arrived, the law meant to help inmates earn time credits and transition back into society wasn’t being properly administered. He says millions of taxpayer dollars were being spent every day housing inmates, yet the system responsible for calculating earned time credits was outdated and largely done by hand.
To address the problem, Marshall says the Bureau of Prisons created a dedicated First Step Act department for the first time, reallocated more than 70 positions that were incorrectly assigned, and implemented a new automated time-credit calculator designed to properly track the credits inmates earn toward earlier release.
According to Marshall, the changes are already having an impact, with litigation related to the First Step Act dropping significantly in recent months.

Committed to the mission and the people who carry it out, @BOPDirector Marshall visited #FDCHouston to meet staff and tour the facility to get a better understanding of its operations. During his visit, he toured psychology, health services, food services, the SHU and the visitors room with a special surprise to new COs participating in CPR training. Keep up the great work #FDCHouston
BOP has a zero tolerance for staff misconduct. A multi-agency taskforce led by BOP and OIG with support from numerous federal and state partners at #FCCBeaumont recovered a significant amount of contraband. We thank our great staff members and our federal partners for their commitment to supporting BOP in addressing the dangers of contraband in federal prison systems.

These former employees violated the law and betrayed the trust placed in them as public servants. Corruption, contraband smuggling, and misconduct in our institutions will not be tolerated. I commend @TheJusticeDept, @JusticeOIG, @FBILouisville, and @USAO_EDKY for their work.

Both investigations were conducted by @JusticeOIG. @FBILouisville also helped conduct one of the investigations.

Honored to stand with Secretaries Kennedy and Rollins and leaders across government, health, and community advocacy at today's event. Thank you Attorney General Bondi for your continued support of efforts that strengthen wellness across federal corrections.
Director William K. Marshall III joined the HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr, Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, and national health leaders, influencers, and advocates, like former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, at the HHS Make America Healthy Again "Eat Real Food" event, bringing our voice to a powerful conversation about nutrition and wellness, and underscoring the importance of real-food choices for healthier communities, including those in corrections. 🍏 🥩

Courage met danger on the 8th floor of MCC San Diego. While voluntarily working overtime to support his colleagues in a crowded institution, Officer Gary L. Rowe disrupted an escape attempt during what should have been a routine security check. Though he fought hard after being brutally attacked, he passed away two days later from his injuries.
A devoted father of two, Officer Rowe is forever honored for his courage and sacrifice. We will never forget him. Read the full account here: https://t.co/oa832SNdUS
I thank our law enforcement partners at the @JusticeOIG and @SDGAnews for their great work. This guilty plea reinforces our shared commitment to accountability and protecting the integrity of the federal prison system. You violate public trust, you will be held responsible.

Thank you to the staff at #USPVictorville for their operational excellence following the recovery of extremely dangerous contraband found near the rear gate of the facility. @BOPDirector Marshall and @BOPDepDirector Smith applaud the team for their determination and focus to ensure safety and security are at the forefront of BOP’s mission.
This is what second chances look like. At FPC Morgantown, men earn ISSA CPT credentials and return home as coaches, role models, and contributors. Led by dedicated staff, programs like this build healthier lives and safer communities.

👮 Never Forgotten!💙 A senseless act of violence. After only six months on duty, Correctional Officer Boyd H. Spikerman was ambushed by inmates seeking notoriety, losing his life while simply doing his job. His service, though tragically brief, will never be forgotten.

Alongside @CLALeadership, @OJPGOV, and the Safe Inside Initiative, we are telling the story Congress needs to hear. When staffing is strong and transparent, employees are safer, all lives improve inside our facilities, and Congress can act with confidence and clarity.
In an effort to extend their sincere appreciation, @BOPDirector Marshall and @BOPDepDirector Smith would like to thank the dedicated staff at FCI Williamsburg for their outstanding vigilance in recovering contraband from a recent drone drop. Your quick action and commitment to safety exemplify correctional excellence and help protect our institutions, our staff, and the public. Outstanding work!
Public servants are held to a higher standard, and breaches of trust harm those who serve honorably. I am proud of the dedicated staff at #FMCRochester and thank the Office of the Inspector General and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for their commitment to accountability.
Appreciated the opportunity to take part in @CLALeadership Southern Regional Workshop on the Safe Inside Initiative. Improving working and living conditions starts with stronger recruitment and retention strategies. Looking forward to continued collaboration. #BOPCollaboration
