@JadenPlayerOne No different than digital-only players giving us shit for caring about physical games availability.
I can certainly see why those who are pissed they are being left out by Rockstar, and not buying GTA6 as a result will celebrate this.
Could be coincidental, but just got this!
#playstation asking my opinion is a rarity, you can bet every answer I gave came back to #physicalgames, and their role in my digital spending! No physical option, no digital revenue! They have to understand they're explicitly connected!
@JaeGamez Neither. One doesn't respect its customers enough to actually provide a physical option, and the other requires giving money directly to Sony (beyond their platform fee). So it's a hard pass.
@ivvanex Imagine having an issue with this!? ๐
I'll take amazing story and average gameplay over average story and amazing gameplay every day of the week!
Not in the least bit comparable to watching a movie.
@DJK1NG_Gaming As soon as we let that go, companies will work to eventually make sure every game is time-limited. You give an inch, they take a metre. We know how this goes, especially when old games now viably threaten the sale of new games -the gap between a 2016 to 2026 title is so small now
@GamesRadar This guy really has become the resident troll on this topic. He clearly has a bee in his bonnet about consumer choice, and the way he conducts himself is very odd for someone who is supposed to be an ex professional.
@Mutation_King@PlayerEssence@Chris_Dring Ok, but customer lifetime value comes from more than just the physical sales. Chances are players who still buy physical, are on PS because of that. Without it, many will stop giving Sony digital revenue too. Physical games are a competitive moat, without them, the castle floods
@Chris_Dring There was an easy way to keep everyone happy. PS6 is a digital-only console. Don't like it? Stay on PS5 and publishers can make a decision accordingly. By forcing digital-only, all they've done is forced me off platform in 2028. Just waiting for Xbox to take me in... hopefully
@rocky7586@ivvanex If you think Steam sales compare to PS in anyway (hell the floor for most PS games is about ยฃ4.99 for a start), then you really haven't a clue.
@10_ch_10 Wooooow. I had been really happy to sit on Devolver knowing the quality of the product (and Human Fall Flat 2 on the horizon), i'm really pissed off that this is taking us into retail investers into a lose/lose scenario - legally!
@_precelek@StopKilingGames@DoesItPlay1 Ok, but it's relevant to the post where we're having this conversation.
Also, in many instances, we've seen physical be the last remaining way to buy/play a game that has otherwise been killed digitally. So it would be disingenuous to say this isn't relevant.
@_precelek@StopKilingGames@DoesItPlay1 Did you not read the post? Weird to play the 'this is not relevant' card, when the OP says otherwise. This conversation belongs here.
@_precelek@StopKilingGames@DoesItPlay1 PC = Multiple storefronts, not a monopoly.
Playstation (without physical) = One storefront, one price dictator, a monopoly.
Hope that helps.
Time to sue Sony!
DoesItPlay? and @StopKilingGames are announcing that we're backing SM&C's (Stichting Massaschade & Consument) lawsuit against Sony over its total control of PlayStation Store pricing. We're putting our full weight behind SM&C's case, with the Dutch court.
SM&C has to show the court it actually represents gamers, not just claims to. Our support backs that up globally. Every Dutch gamer who signs on backs it up directly.
If you're a Dutch PlayStation owner, this is where you come in: https://t.co/S4tiEeg0h5
Signing on there is what proves to the court that real gamers, not just a foundation, stand behind this. This is a class action lawsuit, so even if you're technically covered without signing up, your name on the record is what counts.
Not in the Netherlands? This is one front of many. More coming.
@mr_elsancho That's complete crap.
If people were still buying physically in 2026, then it's clear the format meant a lot to them (it's not the most convenient means of buying a game), so having that ripped away will be a major dealbreaker. Now is the time people will actually move.
